Grimgate Residence Hall

Architecture

Materials and Supplies
This building, like most buildings in Grimgate, tells the story of the Worldgate's misfortune. While no building has been left without a scratch, each generation of repairs can be seen in its architecture.   The foundation of most buildings in the area survived several decade disappearances since the Magic Implosion. Imported bricks sit atop the old, scavanged stone and bricks rest on the imported. Wooden structures and supplies easy to acquire are placed at the highest levels with the expectation that they will be wiped away in the next Night of a Thousand Stars.
Infrastructure
The Visitors' Tower, as it was previously called, once spanned 10 stories. It was the tallest building on the Claw Continent. The building had over 500 rooms, each housing one to six people.   With each rebuilding, the tower shrank. To accomodate longer stays in town, the room sizes steadily increased, as well. Eventually, the building stood two stories tall with nearly 35 rooms.

History

During Grimgate's prime, this building housed important visitors from this world and beyond. After the metropolis' destruction, fewer people dared enter the town, let alone its center.   In the years following the initial disappearances, the Clearsparks tried to rebuild the town with imported materials. During this time, hired hands, members of the Clearsparks, and emassaries resided in its walls. Eventually, the cost of upkeep outweighed the town's potential earnings and the Clearsparks abandoned the town.   With the Clearksparks gone, the Grimmers decided to repair their home themselves. Many Grimmers chose to reside in this building and others like it. The repair work during this period was accomplished with materials scavenged from the ruins around the wall.   Eventually, the Clearsparks sold the now-hamlet to the Whispershadows. Their attempts at upkeep have been the most lasting, keeping their supplies to scavenged materials and supplies found in the surrounding woods.   Today, the building houses Grimmers and the visitors from the Whispershadows. All tenants are offered free room and board outside of the city for a month around the Night of a Thousand Stars, in hopes of saving people from disappearing themselves.   In the weeks following the Night of a Thousand Stars, the Whispershadows send teams of people to help rebuild the town.
