New Year's Resolutions 2024 in Starhome | World Anvil

New Year's Resolutions 2024

This article was written for the New Year's Resolutions Challenge in January 2024. It is written from an out-of-universe perspective and isn't a part of the universe of Starhome

2023 ended, long live 2024. Now it is time to figure out my creative plans for the year.

Lessons from other people

Atreimus, Strength Incarnate by Strixxline

This article describes one of the deities of Malkora. Atreimus is the god of protection and light and represents the trait of Strength. While reading this article I really liked the small narrative snippet that it starts with. It is something that I should start doing in my articles. One of my favourite parts of the article is that the deity is shown having different version of himself in different regions of the world.

Troll Disease by eccbooks

What eccbooks has accomplished in this article is the best example of how to present real-world issues in a fantasy setting. The way in which he blended together the descriptions of people we call trolls in real life with the fantastical aspect is just incredible.

Nomads of Mercury by nnie

The article tells an interesting story of a people who have adapted to the extreme climate of their planet and constantly live on the edge of night and day. I really liked the concept of the Walkers, beasts of burden that can also be used as frames for tents.

Western Agia by PanthersEye

The article is an overview of a region of the world. It presents the most important events in the history of the regions and shows its inhabitants. The article also contains an interactive map through which readers can learn more about the countries of the region.

Saráhlinel by Dhelian

This article talks about Saráhlinel, a guardian god of communities. I like how wholesome and good he feels. That feeling is reinforced by the quotes of followers of Saráhlinel.

From the design point of view the article is simple and clean. It has clear division between different parts of the article. At the same time, while reading everything flows smoothly from one part to another.

World Eater by DapperCapricorn

There are two things I like the most about this article. The first one is the inclusion of quotes of an in-universe researcher studying the myth. The second thing is how the article presents the deities as having a family and life that seem almost human. Just the scale of the problems is bigger.

The Power of Ten by MelissaPlaysRPGs

This article describes the significance of the number 10 in the world and presents the funny reason for it. I like how it starts very serious and ends in a more funny and comedic way.

Sgt. Yahn Sander by kitoypoy

This article talks about a soldier and a hunter who really enjoys what he is doing. I like how the beginning of the article makes you think like this is all to the character, but later you learn about his personal reasons for such a life and his struggles.

Monster Hunting by Mochimanoban

This article talks about the practice of monster hunting on the frozen planet of Daglaci, the reasons for it (melting ice) and socio-political environment around it (poor oppressed by the rich). It is an interesting approach to talking about social inequality in a society.

Temple of the Skies by Satrium

What I like about this article is the architecture description. It isn't just a description of how the building looks like, but also explores the meaning of the parts of the temple. For example, each tower being dedicated to one of the deities worshipped in the temple. Such small details really breathe life into a world.

Plans for 2024

  • Read other people's articles!
  • Work on the world of Starhome, a gaslamp fantasy setting with sci-fi elements (the world this article is published under) - as you may have noticed I created yet another world just a few days before the end of the year. I would like to focus on it in 2024 for, at least, a few months.
  • Write at least 1 short story - I haven't decided yet in which of my worlds it would be set, but I really want to write some stories. As I'm just getting out of a creative slump short stories seem a better idea than a novel.
  • Take part in WA challenges and competitions
  • Finish Summer Camp and Worldember
