Atreimus, Strength Incarnate

The incarnate borne from humanity's strength — or what remained of it during the Nameless Age.

Finally, it came — I could feel it, the dreaded hand of death creeping to grip the heart within my trembling core.   My final moments were not meant to be so cold, I thought. I envisioned in my mind's eye a better fate, one less cruel, where my sword arm would rise again, and I would fight to see the day ahead.   When I opened my eyes again, my vision was a reality. Praise Atreimus, awakener of strength, for driving my blade.
— Memories of a war veteran
God of protection and light, Atreimus was among the first to appear after Vosra within the Pantheon of the New Age. Though worshiped globally, the highest concentration of worshipers reside in the Kingdom of Arsavela.   Atreimus bears the domains of light and protection, and is seen by many as an enforcer of good. He acts as the patron god of those who take up arms to protect their homes against forces of evil and other great threats.

Strength of the Human Heart

As a member of the Pantheon of the New Age, Atreimus represents one of the human traits believed to have been crucial to survival in the Nameless Age: Strength. Strength of body and mind, strength of leadership, and strength of will are traits valued by Atreimus, and his tenets bid his followers to utilize these traits to lead their people and protect their homes from threats, such as the threat of Oblivion's wake.

Perceived Evils
Atreimus's blessing most often appears upon holy armaments crafted from lightforged steel and bears the unique quality of being empowered in the face of evil — but what defines this evil?   The blessing's effectiveness draws its strength from the heart of its wielder; that which the bearer believes to be evil shall find itself facing empowered armaments. Thus, these arms may range in strength from mundane to highly powerful depending on the foe set before them.

Tenets

The tenets of Atreimus revolve around vigilance and strength, and maintaining one's hold on that which is dear to them. He bids his followers to show no mercy to the forces which would threaten them and their homes, and to remain strong in the face of adversity, that they may lead their people to a brighter day.
Leylines of Energy by Strixxline
Show no mercy to the forces of evil. Do not permit threats to your home to remain therein.
Know well the time to draw and strike; do not wait for your hand to be forced.
Stand and fight when death knocks at your door, for if you can fight your time has yet to come.
May all who bear my symbol strike deep into the heart of evil and cast it from their lands.
See with more than just your eyes; be not misguided or deceived by malevolent forces.
Be diligent in the care of your beloved, and be the protector of all you hold dear.
Remember that those who fear the darkness, have never seen what the light is capable of.

Worshipers of Atreimus

Devoted worshipers of Atreimus are often identified as Atreiman, a name which many Savelan people wear proudly. In some regions of the world, this label is met with some distaste, as not all wish to be identified by a god they worship, especially if they observe numerous faiths together.   Though he does not claim war to be one of his domains, he is frequently worshiped as a patron of militaries and militias, for their role in keeping their homelands protected from great evils.

Lightforged Steel

The symbol of Atreimus is a hammer of white metal enveloped in flames with color to match — white flames have become a symbol of purity and holiness in regions which have large populations of Atreiman, and a newfound obsession with its usage in ceremony and display has provel to be a profitable venture for alchemists throughout the world.   The largest churches of Atreimus, such as those stationed in Aurel, are connected to smithies which forge and process blessed metals, molding the material into weapons and equipment bearing the characteristic white color associated with the god himself. These lightforged armaments carry the protector god's blessing and are used by Atreiman armed forces in the defense of their lands for their unique strengths when directed at evils on the field of battle.

Fractured Strength: Shards of Atreimus

With Atreimus's global influence, he appears in many regional pantheons around the world, taking on various forms in accordance with the beliefs and needs of his faithful. Each shard proclaims the same tenets, but places different degrees of emphasis on each, ascribing alternate meanings to some in the process.

Shard: The Purifier

Pantheon: Eastwind Pantheon
Domains: Strength, Protection, Order
Within the Eastwind Pantheon, Atreimus takes on the shard of The Purifier. This shard of Atreimus is known to have a more intense presence, taking his core tenets to more extreme measures in the interest of protecting his people. Atreimus, the Purifier has the strongest presence in the Kingdom of Arsavela, which was historically torn apart in wars of the past as humanity fought its way through the end of the Nameless Age.   Many of the earliest churches formed in Atreimus's name originated in the Kingdom of Arsavela, prompting many of The Purifier's worshipers to believe this shard to be most true to the incarnate's truest form.

Your note about the power of lightforged steel being activated by the subjective version of good instead of an objective version of good is unsettling in all the best ways. I can see zealots feeling justified in attacking anyone they want as long as their steel is burning for them!

Gods like Atreimus mean well in protecting their faithful, but sometimes what the people do with their blessing is out of even the gods' hands! Surely the Hand won't misuse this power.

Certainly nothing to be suspicious of here! :D and eee I just love coming up with quotes for articles like these. In this case, I wanted to show just what kind of strength this god offers to his faithful and how his influence helped humanity survive!

I really like that he has regional versions. It adds a lot of realism as real-world religions also work in the similar way

Absolutely! I'm taking a lot of inspiration from real world faiths in that regard — how the same gods can be seen differently in different places, sometimes having different names, sometimes not. I can't wait to see where this goes!   Thank you for the read <3

I loved reading this article! It was really evocative as well as informative. In particular, the concept of *Shards* is really interesting, and I'd love to read more of them. Can you point me at some articles where you have multiple shards written already?

Thus far, I've only written about one, I'm afraid (The Purifier, linked in this article)! This is a brand new concept I started working on during WorldEmber, so I'm sure we'll see more in time :)
