Sense Stormtrooper Spell in Star Wars: Shards | World Anvil

Sense Stormtrooper

Half in fun and full in earnest.

This started out early in the Shards of Honor campaign, when VN Ysadora's player could not succeed in most attempts to sense anything through The Force -- rolled so badly that she was not certain that she herself was alive -- but succeeded beautifully in very difficult circumstances to sense life "over there" which turned out to be A SECRET ASTEROID-FULL OF STORMTROOPERS. Good job, woman.
Vanya Ysadora has had a positive talent for detecting Storm Troopers since the earliest days of her training as Anakin Skywalker's foundling Padawan. She may not know if the person next to her is alive, but by George she noticed that asteroid with the secret Galactic Empire outpost in it!

One time, a raging starfighter battle in Jinda System was not enough activity in the Force for Padawan Ysadora to sense, but she felt a bunch of lives in a bunker under a plateau -- a bunch of dormant, barely-there lives, in a bunker that had been hidden for more than 20 years -- and the first her master (still Master Skywalker!) heard of it was this email:
Hey, clone troopers! If they follow us home, Master, may we keep them?

Vanya has picked up on Sarge {and gone wandering his way without the sense to avoid a trap}; she has detected the muffled flicker of Galactic Empire Stormtroopers being assaulted by waves of Reavers {and run to their rescue with her lightsabers already lit}; she has created a momentary connection to every single surviving Clone Trooper in the hours after the Twilight; she figured out how to detect Clan Venn while they were still more cyborg than protein-based life form; she has picked up on K7 {and neglected to avoid them} when they and Captain Wilhelm Gerhering were sent to pacify parts of the rebelling Tapani Sector and particularly to gain custody of a time-displaced teenage boy named Gregor Vortapani.
She can find Razak's Roughnecks in the thick of a kelp forest deep in the oceans of Tobiak. And get on Rico's last nerve in the process.

No one else has ever evinced this ability; but then, no one else considered even passably competent as a Force user has ever mixed up the sense of detecting life with the sense of the presence of the Force.
Vanya's quirky; let's leave it at that, shall we?

Manifestation

See "Sense Force" at broad range and "Life Detection" more locally.

This "ability" has no functional effect on game mechanics; it's just fun.

Obfuscation of truth detected: one other Force user has this ability, but it is not known to most Force users that Master Sergeant Jenkins Vorysadora of the Beskar Aran is Force sensitive.
