The Sacking of Banpour

The Sacking of Banpour occurred in the latter half of 760 AD and led to the occupation of The City of Banpour, the founding of The Twin Nations, and eventually The Reclamation War following the death of M'Corei Uka'kaan. Dissatisfaction, desertions, mass surrenders and mutinies had spread amongst the Savaarsena following their crushing defeat by the Wilders in the Spring of 759, in what is modern day Garou. However it was only with the Weber mutiny that a more determined initiative towards separation emerged.   As the war with Wildwood Boneyard drew on, Human and Elf allies all experienced increasing opposition to the war. In Mourne this culminated in the full retreat of the city in the Winter of 759, in which they abandoned all of their occupied lands in the wildwood and relocated to Jacktree Thicket in The Bountylands.   The human supremacist movement fueled the discontent in the Savaarsena by recruiting workers who were already against the war. At the beginning of 760 almost 1,000,000 militant actors went on strike; one demand was peace without annexations, as they did not believe the Wilder lands held anything of value for humanity. The Crown ordered that "'all strikers fit to bear arms' be sent to the front", but it is estimated that in the Summer of 760 about 800,000 to 1,000,000 soldiers refused to follow the orders of their military superiors. Although the counter-advance of M'Corei Uka'kaan's makabila was unexpected, it is thought by historians that the secession of Ortemha was inevitable, although most likely would have failed if the Banpouri had been in a healthier state.   As Wilders started to arrive in The City of Banpour, human morale plummeted and dissatisfied soldiers increasingly disregarded their officers. A large number of human soldiers surrendered, leading Davrou St. Paul to call the first day of the battle the "last day of Banpour". St. Paul noted instances of retreating troops shouting "You're prolonging the war!" at officers who tried to rally them and "Save yourselves!" at reserve troops who moved up to the front lines.   The Occupation of Banpour from Summer 760 until Winter 781 was a consequence of the collapse of the second pillar, after which The Crown was forced to cede their capital city and withdraw the bulk of their population to Sarran, Nozima, and Vizum. This included allowing the troops of the victorious powers to occupy the two largest pools of The Spotted Oasis, the River Corrine, and nearly 80,000 square kilometers of what is modern day Felize.   The purpose of the occupation was on the one hand to give Uka'kaan security against a renewed human attack, which she defended herself against by keeping a large captive human population. The other was to serve as a guarantee for reparations, as she made sure to spread the wealth inherited by the humans from Aleuzlatu around to her people. The populations ended up assimilating heavily, as Wilder populations are known for, and there was a sizable portion of humans who returned to the Wildwood with them as full members of a tribe. The occupation was suddenly ended when The Crown launched a ruthless offensive that ended in a massive culling, organized by an avatar of The Lord of the Sun named Quatl Galgali, who then led the newly rallied Savaarsena into The Reclamation War.
