Ortemha (Ore-Tim-Hah)

History

Also known as "Himmelsberg", Ortemha is a nation built atop treacherous mountains, snowy woodlands, massive industry, and stern folk. While not much is known about its inner workings, the public face of Ortemha depicts it as a paradise for humanity.
It is one of the "Twin Nations", the other being Felize. Both were birthed from Banpour when its capital was sacked in 760 AD. While Felize was formed by a group of noble houses that felt that life in Banpour was becoming overbearing and fascist due to reactionary politics, Ortemha was founded by militant Human nationalists that blamed a soft stance on other races for the defeat. In the following years, Ortemha was left alone to grow while Banpour gathered resources to defeat the Hobgoblin warlord M'Corei Uka'kaan. After her death, Banpour rallied their armies to reclaim The Twin Nations.
The Reclamation War was long and bloody, lasting for 72 years. Ortemha was able to shelter itself from the worst of the fighting, using their elite fighting force to defend mountain strongholds. Ortemha's first emperor, General Karl Weber, used the war as an opportunity to stimulate the economy, funding entrepreneurs and existing businesses in exchange for their support of The Crown. Many powerful companies such as Chainbridge, Anker & Klegg, and Mortisse Tenon have their roots in this Iron Rush, and helped Ortemha build a stronger nation. By the war's end Solace was shaped into territories that largely resemble the ones present today. Under the Treaty of Garou, the old council of kings from the age of the Draego was reformed, with 2 new members in Ortemha and Felize. Ortemha values the autonomy of the state over all else, and the "King" that represents them in the council is an Emperor. The title is traditionally hereditary, but has been usurped or bestowed several times as well. The current emperor is Sigmund Ho Seok.

Culture

Ortemha is a small and lightly populated nation that is mostly closed off to outsiders. It is located within the Western protrusion of the Roundridge Mountains, meaning most of its citizens live at altitude and in the cold. Its Industry and Military are the greatest strengths of the small nation, and the people are generally proud of these things. Das Eisenmanner, or the Iron Men, are a formidable force that have never let foreign aggressors into their borders, making Ortemha the only majority human nation to have never surrendered land to an enemy force.
This militant disposition has made its way into the social norms of Ortemha. What defines a deep and familiar bond with another person is not the same as in other cultures, and leads to a different outward appearance. Ortemhans are generally uncomfortable with warm personal interactions, even good friends might not joke with each other or exchange laughter like in most cultures. The social climate of Ortemha is tense and dangerous, especially for strangers and outsiders, making it risky to connect with those outside of your circle. Visitors to Ortemha are rarely allowed to travel past Himmelstor, unless they have been invited to the imperial palace, Götterburg.
Style in Ortemha is plain compared to other human cultures. Body hair is shaved by women, while Men are seen as weak or effeminate if they lack thick body hair. Women usually wear warm woolen dresses with simple geometric patterns, while men usually wear a uniform denoting their profession(Coveralls for farmers, military garb for soldiers, etc). Gender roles are not explicit, as people are encouraged to play to their strengths, but there is clear social pressure to be heteronormative and fit into a nuclear family structure. Homosexuality and Sexual Deviance(such as breeding with a non-human) is illegal, and offenders are executed. Religion is outlawed, and those that are found worshipping are imprisoned and re-educated. Ortemha exports weapons, machinery, water, and minerals. Their primary food source is Tellum County, as Ortemha's soil is almost entirely infertile.

Politics

Ortemha operates through an Imperial Monarchy headed by the High Emperor. While there are royal houses and a royal court, very little power is held by these nobles by virtue of title alone. Social power is much more freely given to those that contribute to Industry or the Military, as there is a pseudo-meritocracy in place.
Policy is decided by the Emperor and guided by advisors, and the crown is the ultimate arbiter of all things. Private business is controlled by the crown, with the Emperor being the majority shareholder in all Ortemhan businesses.

Organizations of Note

Das Eisenmanner

The primary military force of the Ortemhan State, which also encompasses the police and national defense forces of Ortemha. The branches of Das Eisenmanner include: Königsgarde, Armored Infantry, Panzerkraft, Panzerkopter, Aerostat, Sharpshooters, and Eisenwulf. Most that enlist start as Armored Infantry and later find a specialization as they gain aptitude are promoted into more elite units.

Anker & Klegg

The Anker & Klegg Electric Power Company, also known as ANK, is an industrial enterprise based in Ortemha. It is primarily a power company, supplying battery power and making electricity easily available. As a megacorporation, its reach has a significant underhanded influence in societal, infrastructural, and political spheres. ANK also operates in genetic engineering, astral exploration, and projects its power through the military of Ortemha and their advanced war machines. Their military influence, combined with their commercial monopoly on electric power, gives ANK some measure of control over the world populace.

Mortisse Tenon

Initially founded as the Royal Ortemhan Manufacturing Works, the company specializes in weapon manufacture and factory mass production. This was the company that led humanity out of the bronze age, pioneering the first human refinement processes for iron and steel that used no magic. This company's corporate espionage also allowed Ortemha to steal the blueprints for firearms from Charming Charlie Dean and the Talanov Twins, leading to the mass production of handheld gunpowder weapons.
