The Mortugurra Incursion

There was nothing but the void before the Everfire, and our Lords were born within its flames. They strode into the desert with the fire at their backs, and they breathed fire onto the endless sands to bring us all to life. They called forth the waters of the Godswollen to satiate our thirst, and they raised The Gleaming City to keep us safe.
They are the first and the last of the Everfire's heralds, and we bow our heads beneath their light.
Without them, there is only darkness, and we are but sand blowing in the wind.

The Mortuggura Incursion refers to the escape of Elder Avatars during the final years of The Godling Wars as the magics of The Destruction were unleashed.
The Elder Gods and their avatars were imprisoned millennia before by the Eldar kin at the end of the Wars of Emancipation in an event called The Cosmic Defiance. The Deepkin talk of it in their mythologies of The Harvest, and some records saved by The Returned refer to it, but these are little more than rumours and conjecture.
The Elder God prison became known later as the Demonic Realm, but the truth is, no descendant of the Eldar kin, nor the later forged races, have ever been able to cross the divide from the real world to where the Elder Gods are kept. Most have never even heard of it, and those that have believe it just a myth, and still others believe that the Elder Gods were destroyed during the Cosmic Defiance.
The truth of the Demonic Realm and the later Incursion is known only to the Lords of Fire, but they keep it a close secret as part of their agreement written into the First Contract.
The Godling Wars were engineered by surviving Elder God Avatars that had never been imprisoned during the Cosmic Defiance. Through long machinations during the Age of Ascendancy, they sought to channel and subvert the magical powers of the Assembly into the undoing of the Elder God's imprisonment and free Ghul Drazul himself. They almost succeeded, but the Heroes of The Cabal prevented it at the final moment when the prison wall began to crumble and those held within the Demonic Realm began to escape.

We are too late, the veil is all but gone and even now some have escaped us. Zurghasta says we have one last chance, if but a slim one. We will die, there is no stopping that now. You have no choice but save those that can be saved. You must close the doors to Refuge now and hope for the best. May the Preserver keep you. The Cabal was able to prevent Ghul Drazul's escape, but many of his Avatars broke through. These included many minor avatars, more beastlike than sentient. The greatest to escape were the Lords of Fire themselves.
It is this event that is now known as the Mortuggura Incursion.

We have long been suspicious of these so-called Lords of Fire. There are no records of them before the Collapse, but they are familiar to us in ways we dare not speak of to others.
Their power claws at us from the depths of time. The way they rule, control, and feed upon their subjects. It reminds us of the stories from before the Defiance, to The Harvest itself.
