Unsurprisingly, the namesake of Fumayan humans was a man named Fumaya. What might be surprising is that he wasn't fully human.
Fumaya the Half-Elf was a legendary warrior from the Red Era. Like most legendary figures from the Red Era, details are sketchy and his legend was probably embellished with each retelling. That said, legends are often more true than facts are.

Fumaya was a half-breed that who was widely respected in a time when half-breeds were not commonly respected. He grew up in what was then called "the Land of Lakes."
Storytellers and historians do not agree on whether his elven heritage came from his mother's side or from his father's side. Most believe Fumaya was a half wood elf. I personally believe his father was a human and his mother was a satyr. The evidence points that way.
Against all odds, Fumaya's mother and father stayed to raise him and they lived in peace until tragedy struck. When Fumaya was a boy on the cusp of adolescence, ogres murdered his father and ate him.
Years later, when Fumaya was an adolescent on the cusp on manhood, his mother was kidnapped by a malefic Fae Warlock for his slave harem and she was clapped in a Control Collar.
Fumaya almost rescued his mother, but the warlock chose to murder her rather than let her go. Fumaya killed him slowly.
Fumaya dedicated his life to killing cannibals, slavers, and evil mages, and he lived during a dark time where cannibals, slavers, and evil mages were pretty much around every corner. Fumaya had no magical ability, besting foes with his strength, wits, and utter tenacity to never quit fighting while he could draw breath.
Fumaya was generally said to be impious believing that the Nine were not worthy of worship given what they allowed to happen to his parents, but many holy warriors are said to have fought by his side and were valued companions in his quest to purge the Land of Lakes of evil.
Fumaya eventually made a nemesis either named King Grieval or Queen Refrala, depending on which storyteller you asked. I like to think Grieval and Refrala were an evil power couple because even villains can find true love. 'Grievrala' headed a brutal war band and they were evil mages, cannibals and slavers all in one.
Grevrala and Fumaya each controlled a small army and they played Cat and Mouse up and down the interior West Colassia with neither side sure who was the cat and who was the mouse.
Fumaya killed many of Grevrala's son and Grevrala killed many of Fumaya's best friends. Eventually, Fumaya and his followers gained the upper hand and had Grevala's forces on the run until he backed them against the shores of Titan Lake and slaughtered all of them.
Some legends say that a prophecy stated that Queen Refrala had a prophecy protecting her that stated that anyone who spilled her life's blood would suffer a horrible curse. Fumaya was willing to accept this has price to pay to get rid of this evil skin changer, but one of his Fumaya's more clever followers (who was probably a satyr) pointed out that drowning can kill someone with out technically spilling their life's blood and that is exactly how Fumaya slew Refrala. Later Titan Lake was renamed the Lake of Fumaya in his honor.
There are probably at least hundred stories about Fumaya's valor. I only know six stories of Fumaya's great deeds besides the Battle of Titan Lake. Two against cannibals, two against slavers, one against a necromancer, and another against a marauding dragon. In all six of these stories at least one of the people he rescued was a beautiful young maiden, and she was very enthusiastic about expressing her thanks to the muscle bound warrior.
Most of the time, Fumaya sired a son, not a daughter. Just about every clan living in the Land of the Lakes claimed that their clan chief was a direct descendant of Fumaya the Half-Elf.
'Your clan all carry the blood of the land's greatest hero? What a coincidence, so does our clan!'
This practice was so widespread that the 'People of the Lakes' began calling themselves the 'Tribe of Fumaya'.
And after about a thousand years of the Fumayan humans fighting amongst each other, King Ziven Linijka and his loyal companions finally unified the Land of Lakes under one banner and named their new nation the Kingdom of Fumaya in honor of their shared heritage.
