Ranzienus

History

Ranzienus was discovered by accident during the Great Crusade - a force of Blood Angels came across the world after a minor Warp drive failure dropped them in orbit of the world. They landed upon the world to do repairs, piercing the thick smog that hung over the atmosphere. These repairs ended up taking months, and as such a small outpost was founded to sustain the Astartes during their stay. It was discovered that an alloy that the Warp drive needed to function was in the depths of one of the planet's many volcanoes - so a Blood Angels Captain by the name of Janor Ranzienus went to retrieve it. He came back successful, but the exposure left the captain mortally wounded. When the Blood Angels left, the world was named in his honor and his armor was left at the base of the volcano he delved into.
Five-thousand years passed before another soul touched the ashen wastes of Ranzienus. A Mechanicus surveyor team was doing routine material checks for the worlds in the surrounding sub-sector, and they discovered that the smog and ash that come from the volcanoes was actually rich in a whole range of useful metals. Within the year, a colony was established at the aged ruins of the Blood Angels outpost.
The main founders of this colony was the Cai dynasty, and they have continued their rein over the world to the current day. They are unlike the Constans Interplanetary Company - they do not sell their goods. The Cai dynasty has deep roots with the Mechanicus and the world of Volar III - both wanting to massive amounts of metals exported by the world. In return, the Cai get any sort of tech or vessels they wish - shown by the fact that Ranzienus has the largest defensive fleet outside of the Imperial Navy.
This large fleet, along with the imports of advanced tech does worry the Inquisition and Lord Sector alike - the Cai tend to keep to themselves about their plans and ambitions.

Military

The Grand Army of the Cai Dynasty - or GAC - keeps the world safe from pirates and enemies of the Emperor. That official statement from the Cai Dynasty is repeated again and again as a joke by the Roma Conclave back on the Black Spire - the sheer size of the GAC compared to the threats around them is astounding.
Ranzienus is garrisoned by nearly five-hundred million soldiers and sixty warships - seven of those being some variant of battlecruiser. Despite this, the world has gotten exemptions from Imperial Guard and Navy tithes for centuries. During the years of the Blood Wars, these forces did not contribute - they simply expanded tenfold.

Agriculture & Industry

Ranzienus prides itself on the massive amounts of metals it exports, and to keep up with their standards the world is blanketed in factories. The collection of metal particulates from the ash is in reality the smallest part of the world's industry - a majority is taken up by the facilities to filter and condense the particles into useful forms.

Infrastructure

Travel on Ranzienus is majority done by either train or large-wheeled vehicles that can cross the ash-wastes without issue. Large highways and tracks connect the many Hive Minora across the world - mainly having cargo bays instead of passenger cars.
