Acania
History
Founded early in the Great Crusade's expeditions into the Roma Sector, Acania was once a lush, mountainous world not unlike Malum. During those days, the world was founded by settlers following the paths made by the Blood Angels - and they began a new life for themselves. With the verdant landscape, the world was ripe for agriculture, aquaculture, and domesticated animals. Acania grew at a fast rate due to it's proximity to the sector's capital, and quickly became the second most populous planet in the sector.
Acania was passed over many times during the Great Heresy, up until the final months before the Siege of Terra. A company of traitorous Astartes on their way to support the legions of Horus stopped to enact some vile ritual using the many inhabitants of the world in a sacrifice. The Dark Angels 13th Company - a force made up of the First Legion's dishonored and deranged whose descendants would become the Iron Seraphim chapter - set about countering the Traitor's plans. The conflict lasted until after the Siege itself, and only ended when the God-Emperor was interred to the Golden Throne. It ended with the Dark Angels 13th declaring the Eskaton Imperative - a declaration of complete destruction against the world. No original Acanians survived, and the world was turned into blackened sands.
Over the centuries since the so-called "Slaughter of Acania", the world has become slightly more hospitable. Around the 37th millennium, the planet was gifted to a Cadian regiment for colonization by the Thelmoth Assembly for them to turn it into a harsh training ground for elite Imperial Guard forces. A sprawling metropolis was formed in the ruins of the world's previous capital - Cairncolm.
Acania is less of a world and more of a massive training facility. The forces of the Acanian Militaris inspire fear wherever they are deployed due to their extreme combat efficiency - despite their limited numbers. These regiments would fight valiantly during the Blood Wars, but take heavy losses due to the dangerous missions they were sent upon. A monument has been built to their honor in the city of Cairncolm, right next to the statues of the Dark Angels who saved the planet ten millennia ago.

Every day, thousands across the Roma sector apply to join the Acania Militaris - only about 1% of those applicants will be accepted. Acania does not accept any simply hive dreg or posh high-spire noble. Those with useful backgrounds, a clean bill of health, and a faithful record are the only ones who get in to the program. After being shipped to Acania itself, they go through a grueling thirty-six month training camp before they are even given access to the wider city of Cairncolm. A majority of applicants wash out or simply perish during these thirty-six weeks.
There are several routes a new ensign can take after finishing the training camp - lovingly named Inferna Primus. A majority are put into the Acanian Tempestas Custodos program - the Storm Wardens. The rest either go to the Commissariat, Armored, or Airborne schools. It is not uncommon for Inquisitors to step in and take graduates from the Storm Warden school - otherwise these elite troops are used in various commando operations across the sector.
Currently, there are rumors of a massive drug issue on the world. This information is highly controlled, and there is no more known about this affliction.
