Talaros House

Talaros House is a small estate on the northern edge of Qesrir that once belonged to the house of Tala, an minor extinct Madresha noble family that could trace its lineage back to the old city-state of Sun'im. As a relatively recent structure, Talaros House represents the humbler noble sensibilities brought about by extended Dominion rule in the region, being quite smaller and more practical in construction than other stately homes from earlier eras.

Purpose / Function

Talaros House is an important source of jobs and food for Qesrir due to its fields dedicated to the growing of millet. In recent years, however, its role in feeding the local community has become a secondary concern, with the rights to managing the fields having been sold to a local miller. Nowadays, it is something of an open secret that an illicit group is operating out of Talaros House, though very few can name which illicit group it is.   It is known to local Dominion officials that Hiraja ar'Silam, the current owner of the estate, is a ranking member of the Black Fang. This matter was revealed during the requisite background investigation that was initiated after Hiraja placed a bid on the estate. It was decided to allow the purchase in order to better monitor the activities of the Black Fang. For the time being, the Dominion is satisfied with maintaining the status quo as the Black Fang has not made any overt or disruptive moves since gaining their foothold in Qesrir.

History

With 80 acres of arable land historically used for the growing of millet within the boundaries of the estate and a sizable rainstone used primarily for drinking water and, on occasion, to help irrigate the fields, the Talaros House is a valuable piece of real-estate. Following the unexpected death of the last scion of the house of Tala in 344.30 NL, leaving behind no heirs and no next of kin, the fate of the estate was briefly in limbo. Once debts and taxes on the estate were settled, the title of the property reverted to the Dominion, who secured a public easement around the rainstone.   The property was auctioned off and initially purchased by a local merchant in 347.30 NL, only to revert to Dominion control in 350.30 NL following the death of the merchant at the hands of a former lover. A number of other merchants made overtures to purchase the property but it remained under Dominion management until 355.30 NL. At the time, it was purchased by Hiraja ar'Silam, a merchant from Salaq on the eastern side of the Sharan peninsula who was looking to expand operations west.
