Tolta

The settlement of Tolta is located within the Surcounty of Pilkala within the Tora Valley of the Grand Duchy of Canyndor. The settlement lies upon a wide and flat hill, upon which an old church stands prominently. The church itself is old and made from a grizzled volcanic stone which gives the church an otherworldly aura. The Church of the Black Stone stands upon a holy site which was a precursor to the settlement itself, a place of significance for worshippers of the god of defiance and ardour, Olankuu. The great mound upon which Tolta sits was said to have been made by Olankuu as the ideal battleground, open and honest, upon which he challenged and fought the god Suolija over his claim to the human people of the Palantars. When Olankuu was defeated, he removed his own heart and buried it within the mound, vowing to return to claim it when he was worthy. Tolta would grow rapidly around the holy site, aided by its suitable location between the long routes between other major settlements, though it would truly begin to prosper during the modern age as the provider of crops, ore and other commodities to the Surcounty capital of Pilkala. The first notable ruler of the settlement is believed to be a relative of the Sjoen tribe royalty, thus explaining how the Church of the Black Stone obtained its volcanic architecture, a material most commonly found in the Redcrest Mountains. At this time, Tolta would have served as the principal settlement of its own vassal state to the petty kingdom of Sjolund, the land around the settlement being ideal for farmland and thus allowing Tolat to grow rich on its exports. This period of growth in both population and wealth would soon come to an end when the southern rival people, the Caenens, came calling. Tolta lay in the soft underbelly of the Sjolund territory, bordering that of their hostile neighbour. As such, Tolta saw much devastation during the conflicts between the Sjoen and the Caenen people. Eventually, Tolta would come under permanent control of the Caenen Kings, and would remain as such till such notions of tribes were replaced with that of a new, bold idea; the Doric people.
Tolta was the notable place of Altti, the Silver King's apprenticeship to his uncle where he served as the county's Sheriff.
Tolta served as the battled ground for the Battle on Tolta Hill, where the Doric forces of the Grand Duchy where defeated by the Aijian army.
