Ashcastle

Ashcastle is an important fortress located within the Grand Duchy of Canyndor, situated within the north-east surcounty named eponymously. The fortress serves to protect the Grand Duchy from the north by overlooking the eastern branch of the Tora River and the small isthmus between the Tora and Insola rivers. The castle was likely built originally to act as a base of control over the isthmus due to its importance as a place of portage, allowing trade to flow between the lands of modern Torania and the Dales and southeast Doria.
Though a castle has inhabited the current day location of Ashcastle for millennia, the current castle finds its roots in the unfortunate events of the Half-Wit War that briefly occurred between nobles of the Torania and Doria. After the event of the war, the crumbling and neglected castle that once stood was demolished and replaced with the imposing structure that still remains.
