Hun'Ari

People of Forgotten Pasts

Born from the mistakes of their First Men ancestors, the Hun'Ari are a people without history or culture. Surviving within the dark places of the realm, darkened caves or sunless undergrowth, these children of Humanity have turned away from the Light of their forfathers in exchange for secrets only the shadows know.
Denied access to the histories of their people or the power of any Divine, the Hun'Ari have become erratic and conspiratorial lot, relying upon Gris-Gris and Blood Alchemy to survive the many dangers of Venarus. While they are welcomed into any tribe, they are never fully trusted. It is not a matter of if a Hun'Ari will start on the path of the Vul but when.

Appearance

Tall, gaunt, and plagued with nervous energy, the Hun'Ari look little like their First Men ancestors. Their hair is generally as dark as ancient bark while their skin can vary from a sickly white to an obsidian, almost-purple brown. Those tainted by Primal Shadow have skin that grows progressively more blue the further the corruption spreads.
The garb of the Hun'Ari varies little from other sophonts within Venarus, being made up of hide, bone, and bark. What they consider acceptable dress varies from tribe to tribe, with those in the warmer regions willing to disregard most clothing in general.

Culture

Stripped of their faith, histories, and discoveries, the Hun'Ari are no strangers to sacrifice. While they may lack a unifying heritage, the Hun'Ari have become masters of Gris-Gris creation and use, and are often identified by the number of strange trinkets and jewelry all of them seem to possess. Unfortunately for would-be thieves, many of said baubles are likely non-magical in nature but treated as charms by the wearer. The most common of these being bones of animals, dried animal limbs such as chicken feet, or things as simple as really shiny rocks tied with bound with string.

Godless

As part of the punishment for their ancestor's invasion, the Hun'Ari have been denied their own Communal Gods by the Wild Hunt. With no gods of their own to call upon, many Hun’Ari are susceptible to making pacts with Shadow Cabals in exchange for power. Those that take this pact, and are consumed by it, are transformed completely and become one with the Vul.

Hun'Ari Naming Scheme

With no culture to rely upon, the Hun'Ari have lost any sort of identity to how they are named. It is up to the child, upon reaching ten years of age, to choose a name for themselves. Until then, nicknames of varying levels of endearment are used.
For character creation, choose any name you would like from the list of other Venarus' sophonts.

Communal Telos

It is the expected telos of the Hun'Ari to not only read the shadows for hidden knowledge but also to be the ones to make contact with any Shadow Cabals in the region. Their natural understanding of Gris-Gris is considered a benefit to the tribe, but not something expected of them.
