Port Hren (hɹɛn)

Hren is the least of the three port cities along the southern coast of Hœm. Two larger port cities, Momo and Gallu , are to the east of it, and most traffic flows through Ports Momo and Gallu respectively. Port Hren and its huge Circular Quay are what most seabound immigrants, refugees and exile see first upon admittance to the Yellow Walled Nation. Like its sister ports, Hren also has canals which serve as secondary roads into the city. Most local trade between ethnic Hœmmé farmers, fishers, bakers, and butchers is through Port Hren’s quays and markets. The larger Ports, Momo and Gallu, serve as bastions of international trade between Hœm and Ptarshakk, Qh'énnshaiyn, Mbaré, and Tzolgarys.

Defences

Standing city watch staffed from neighbouring Hœmmé cities augmented by Oya-i constructs. Additionally, the nigh impenetrable Yellow Wall that surrounds all of Hœm. If an army is required, Port Hren as one of the Thirty Cities, can draw upon the assistance of its co-nationals and the Thirty Thrones will act as one.

Industry & Trade

Port Hren—like its sister cities, Gallu and Momo—survives primarily on international trade, shipping/distribution with other Hœmmé cities, and fisheries. Whereas Gallu primarily deals in Yssian goods (paper, binding, ink, books, wax, gemstones), and Momo deals in more far-ranging trade (Tzai-Léi silks, Ptarshaii textiles, Kielik furs), Port Hren primarily deals in northwestern Gruthen goods (Qh'énnish wines and wood; Dhaoshee artefacts and textiles; and Illaohhéin metal, metalwork, stonework).   Port Hren largely eats local seafood and northern Hœmmé flour-based foodstuffs and local greens.

Districts

The eight districts of Port Hren are as follows: 1. Wrensnest. 2. Orchard. 3. Warrens. 4. Southpoint. 5. Throne. 6. Circular Quay. 7. Garden. 8. Import.   Circular Quay is the main docking area of the city. The Central Market is located just off the docks of the Quay, although there are numerous markets throughout the city. Slums are largely confined to the Warrens District, but also partially in Southpoint and Wrensnest. Canals surround the city as its main terminus into the intercity grounds; numerous other canals divide districts and protect the Throne District. Canals also allow vessels from Chaalai to enter into the city limits and access other ports. Port Hren has an elaborate sewer system that incorporates the ruins of earlier settlements and the numerous rivers upon which the city was built.
