Creston Timbers

Creston Timbers

Born in the dwarf kingdom of Illaohh, a young Creston showed indications he might be magically inclined and thus was taken to endure the Burning Trial where his status as a gnome was confirmed. He began training at the gnome school at the edges of the capital. Not taking well to the lifestyle, the conditions, and the shame brought on his family, he fled to the south where he lived in exile in the city of Port Hren, Hœm.   Through the use of his natural talents, some of the magics he learned in the gnomehold, and street smarts, he began to live increasingly better in the slums of Port Hren. Eventually forming the House of Knives Gang with three other outcasts.

Apparel & Accessories

Creston now wears his ancestral armour of the Wolflord Llaocannor Spearforger. The iridescent purple and blue armour with the wolf hood is extremely distinctive... if you can catch a glimpse of it.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

He was initially picked out to be turned into a gnome due to the history of his family. However, he failed to show the same aptitude for magic growing up. He could do some simple spells like mage hand and that sort of thing, but certainly none of the skills of his siblings. This was a source of embarrassment for his family, as most of his siblings have gone on to be wizards and sorcerers He still went through the process of being turned into a gnome. However, because of his lack of aptitude, his minders often neglected him and didn’t really pay attention to what he was doing, and left him to his own devices. He often wandered the markets, challenging himself to see what he could steal He also started taking odd jobs for merchants. Nothing too lethal, but just things like poisoning a competitor to give them stomach flu and miss important meetings, spying on incoming shipments, etc. The more of these jobs he took on, the more he began to see the same attitudes in the merchant class that he saw in his family: the elitism, the wastefulness, the disregard for anyone they see as an obstacle to their own ambition He struck out on his own, becoming sort of a Robin Hood figure. He still takes some jobs, but always skims a bit off the top to give to the local poor houses He was running a front as a respectable leatherworker, but once the governors of the magical academy caught wind of his extracurricular activities, he left Gruthe and made his way south to a place where his skills would be more appreciated: Port Hren

Gender Identity

Biologically male.

Sexuality

Creston is Gay. Super Gay.

Employment

Creston had several different employers when he lived in Gruthe. Now that he has arrived in Port Hren, his main employers have been the Black Gallu and now Gainrahet.

Becoming a gnome Unofficially flunking out of magic school

Mental Trauma

His experiences with being neglected through childhood and being raised by the magic scholars has left Creston feeling like he can't trust anyone.

Intellectual Characteristics

Despite his perceived failures at performing magic, Creston is surprisingly intelligent His time spent spying on people and performing other espionage-related tasks has developed his skills at reading people and lying to get his way out of sticky situations Being subjected to the "temporal bullshit" of TBLT has caused Creston's mind to warp slightly; he is now capable of reading the thoughts of others and even (one-way) communicate with them telepathically

Morality & Philosophy

Creston tends to be very anti-authority. He is not outright disrespectful to the presence of nobles, but feels that respect is earned not given. He tries to be helpful to the downtrodden... it just happens that he is among the downtrodden, so he tends to help himself first.

Taboos

Creston believes in consensual non-monogamy. Creston will not steal from the poor.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Creston is motivated by being able to live comfortably (not rich) and being able to live freely without any obligation to others.

Vices & Personality flaws

He often covets items and artifacts, particularly ones held by nobles.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Orion: Creston explicitly trusts Orion with his life; probably the only person he trusts outside of his (now deceased) sisters. Also has a bit of a crush on Orion, but would never try anything because of Slem. Barris: Empathizes with Barris, as he seems to similarly suffer under the weight of familial expectations (or lack thereof). Wishes to help Barris find his freedom to be himself. Akabar: Respects Akabar's magical prowess and desire for freedom. Finds him a bit condescending at times. For the same reason he respects Akabar, doesn't fully trust him. Slem: Dislikes Slem, thinks Orion could do better. Necrost Spearforger: Thinks his brother is a fool for being blinded with ambition and seeking power for the sake of it. Pitied him to some extent for also suffering under the expectations of his father, but is now only filled with loathing for his brother after the murder of the family,
