The Rift (ʧæsɔs)
Colloquially among the rarified beings that know of it, the Rift is the collective name for interdimensional border realms, links, pocket dimensions, free-floating realms, and the like that link one world to another; holes and tears between realities; and the planar voids between and betwixt all. Individual tears have myriad names/terms in their vernacular. The most common of which are "thinnies," areas where two or more realms bleed together because their barriers are too thin.
The classical Qhélssénnish term is tchasos (/ʧæsɔs/).
Derived terms:
- rifting (tchasossiir /ʧæsɔsjiːɹ/): the process of travelling between worlds.
- rifter (tchasossin /ʧæsɔsin/): one who wanders through the Rift, i.e., shifts between worlds, dimensions, and/or transitory realms. (Although any such traveler, even an accidental one, could be called a rifter—technically—the term is usually used by and for those who do so deliberatley, regularly. Cf. the Six Crows.)
