The Republic of Samaria

Samaria is a small republic known for diplomacy and trade. It has used it to survive in spite of some of its more aggressive neighbors.

Culture

Remembrance of the Dead

The Sunstone Party brought with it a tradition of devouring the dead, coming from a lizardfolk community. In melding with other cultures, and as the party became one of the leading factions, the idea of making use of a loved one after they passed became more common place. To date, this is the norm. They are used as fertilizer, given to the sea, burned, or used in rituals or spells. It is seen as a fitting send off.

Crest Stones

In terms of memorializing the dead, that comes from a rather clever development from local wizards. Crest Stones were enchanted and given to families. Each Crest Stone can hold generations of stories. The actual limit is currently unknown. A family member can touch the family Crest Stone and impart memories - be they images, stories, or emotions. Anyone who touches the Crest Stone can sort through the imprints at will. It provides a comforting connection to the past. There are courtyards in some areas filled with family Crest Stones where people come to imprint and read them. The Crest Stones here are for families who cannot keep them at home. There are special memorial parks for Crest Stones of family lines that ended. In rare cases, when one family "ends" by merging into another, the Crest Stones are linked or fused.

Foreign Relations

Espiria

Samaria has good relations with both Heppe and Sidonia currently. Besides trade agreements, there is not much else going on. The conflicts with Madrane have given most Espirian nations reason to be less hostile. That being said, there are concerns about Parrishi treatment of their populace, leading to tenuous agreements between Parrish and Samaria. Quatria and Samaria have great partnerships. It helps that they have shared animosity towards Madrane, but even outside of that they have strong trade relations and frequently have other cultural exchanges and celebrations.    Madrane, while currently having an armistice treaty with all Espirian nations, continues to posture against Samaria. The Great Espirian Mountains has become a dangerous area for travellers. Some believe the dangerous creatures that have begun traversing the mountains are from Madrane, though there is little evidence of yet.

  • Republic of Samaria
The Republic of Samaria is a rich trade nation. Their southern border is constantly contested with The Madrane Empire on the warpath. Samaria's resources are partially consumed securing their southern border, but most of it is in improving the towns and cities as well as expanding their abundant trade routes.   The countryside is full of colorful maple trees and beautiful vistas: All except the forest that encapsulates the scar left behind from the infection of an abyss. But the lands are the safest to traverse on all of Espiria and there are lots of opportunities for travel and adventure.
