Gnomes are one of the earliest clades of posthumans, engineered for long-term space travel. Gnomes are flexible and very small -the smallest of the posthuman clades, in fact. Most gnomes descend from the original group, sent out from Earth in vast generational starships.

Gnomes are similar to baseline humans, though significantly smaller. Gnomes have dark skin to minimize radiation exposure, lots of whisker-like hair on their faces for sensing, and opposable thumbs on their feet for additional grasping capacity in microgravity.

Geographic Origin & Distribution

The gnome subspecies of human originated on Earth, in the Sol system. They are moderately less common than true humans and their population is more concentrated in the core of ex-Reach space.

Civilization & Culture

One of the more prominent gnome-originated cultural groups is the Nisser of the pastoral planet Vanas: a rustic folk, small in size but large in personality. Related to the Vanir, Nissen culture is homely and puts emphasis on the simple joys in life, contrasting with their more adventurous cousins. Nisser pride themselves on their hospitality.
