Tiefling
Makaria
Tieflings, so called for their demonic appearance, are a subspecies of humans from Persephone, the garden moon of the gas giant Hades. Their native and preferred name is Makaria, after the ancient goddess of Elysium. Their verdant homeworld is deceptively dangerous, which was a significant factor in the development of the various Makarian phenotypes: horns, spines, and claws all contribute to natural defenses. The other major factor in their epigenetic radicalization was more vain: personal aesthetic.
Biology
Anatomy & Morphology
Makaria are fairly similar to true humans, though they differ from unaltered humans in a few key respects. Though they retain humanoid proportions, they are slightly taller than their ancestors and, unlike all other posthumans, possess long, dexterous tails. Tieflings have a range of phenotypic variants, mostly concerning the number, type, and location of dermal spines or horns.Ecology
Geographic Origin & Distribution
The tiefling subspecies of human originated on the planet Persephone, one of the moons of the planet Hades in the Olympia star system. They are slightly less common than true humans.Civilization & Culture
Makarian culture is exotic, lavish, and rich in history, appearing to outsiders as a well-oiled social machine steeped in ancestor veneration. The society of Persephone is stratified and divided into a complex caste system based on wealth and influence, but underneath the pious facade is madness.Major Organizations
