Caisléan Artannaegh

The Caisléan Artannaegh is the palace of the Queen of the Night, located in the farthest reaches of the Winter Court's domain.

Architecture

All who claim to have seen the Caisléan Artannaegh describe it as being impossibly beautiful, with six ornate spires rising far higher than even the Citadel of the Wild. It is made entirely of intricately carved blue ice. Its central hall is a maze of icy pillars that seem to shift into different arrangements of corridors like an impossible maze.   Some of these hallways and archways eventually lead to a portrait hall, where the Queen of the Night keeps a perfect, lifelike portrait of every Fool of the Fey and Warlock she has ever held under her power. (Some sages believe that each of these portraits holds a piece of the contract itself, or perhaps a piece of the doomed mortal's Soul.)   The deepest level of the palace is a sunken prison where fey and mortals who wrong the Queen of the Night are taken. Time passes even more strangely in this prison than anywhere else in the Feywild; those trapped in it sometimes emerge having aged years or even decades more than they should have.   At the heart of the palace is the Altar of the White Queen, the throne room from which the Queen of the Night overlooks her domain. Here, her throne sits over a balcony looking down upon any part of the palace she wishes; she may peruse her hall of fools, interrogate prisoners in the sunken chambers, or even use it as a window to look out on any part of the Winter Court or any part of the mortal world that it touches. From here, she sometimes opens interdimensional portals into these realms and appears before mortals.
