Smaragaidh

Smaragaidh, or the City of Gemstones, is a settlement in the Summer Court of the Feywild. It is the primary domain of Verenestra.

Every surface and structure in the city is made of gemstones and crystals, perfectly polished and cut. The stones are constantly shifting color and composition, creating a glittering kaleidoscope throughout the cityscape. The dominant gemstone is said to align with the mercurial moods of Verenestra: sapphire for happiness, carnelian for love, emerald for hope, ruby for caution, and opal for despair.

The population of Smaragaidh is primarily eladrin and nymphs (mostly sylphs and peléans). Only the most beautiful, and the most loyal to Verenestra, are able to live in Smaragaidh in comfort and peace. Those who lose her favor hear a piercing ringing in their ears at all times, and the gemstones around them temporarily lose their luster. Whether by social pressure or their own frustration and madness, they are eventually driven out of the city altogether.
