Village of Barovia (bah-ROWV-ee-ah)

Surrounded by a dense fog, the village's tall shapes loom, almost menacingly to travelers who approach. As the forlorn forms gain focus, they become dwellings--the thick, sucking mud giving way to slick cobblestones. Entering the village, rows of black, soulless windows stare out at you. No sound dares disturb the oppressive silence save for a mournful sobbing which echoes throughout the empty streets.   The small village has one main road, about a tenth of a mile long, heading east-west, eventually ramifying into several roads which wend northward or southward. Houses reflect disrepair featuring moldy boards across windows. There are few businesses within the town but those present include a church, tavern, mercantile, and tavern. Residents rarely venture forth and always keep closely to themselves.
