Visesi Human

Visesi are lightly genetically modified humans designed to be specialized in certain tasks, and are generally indistinguishable from baseline humans except for certain genetic markers and some pronounced features. They don't break Federation caste law and assimilate well into society. Often, the only way to tell a visesi is to look at their bio-reg.

Visesi Traits

  • Adaptable: Visesi begin play with any Novice Edge of their choosing. They must meet its requirements as usual.

  • Specialized Attribute: Choose an attribute. You increase that attribute by a die type. Your maximum for that attribute is 1d12+1.

  • Compromised Attribute: Choose an attribute. You take a -2 penalty to rolls with that attribute.

Visesi Subtypes

Visesi have special names depending on their individual variant, sometimes listed along with their variant status. Visesi use these to differentiate each other more than others do.
  • Majabuta (high Strength)
  • Capala (high Agility)
  • Jnani (high Spirit)
  • Utsahi (high Vigor)
  • Husara (high Smarts)

Basic Information

Anatomy

Because of the tailored genes that Visesi have, compromises are usually made to boost functionality in other areas. For example, Visesi specialized in brain power use most of their metabolism to fuel their grey matter, not their muscles. It is against caste law to intentionally make human variants which are stupid or compliant.   Notably, because of these changes in physiology, Visesi have slightly shorter lives than Junya do.

Genetics and Reproduction

Visesi, as per anti-caste law, are genetically compatible with Junya. By design, Visesi-Junya offspring are 50% likely to be Visesi and 50% likely to be Junya. Sankari-Visesi hybrids have a high chance of miscarriage, but on some on occasions make "Sanesi", who are Visesi-Sankari hybrids.

Civilization and Culture

History

It is a common myth that the visesi were designed before the sankari, but actually, the first visesi  were created after, as more "human" alternatives to the sankari. When attitudes toward human genetic engineering started to relax in the early 22nd century, families once again began to genetically tailor their children, this time according to Federation law. The most extreme (but still legal) forms of this tailoring were came to be classified as the visesi, "specialized" people.   Overwhelmingly, visesi were tailored for higher intelligence and attractiveness, sacrificing physical strength, although some families opted for more "athletic" forms. The explosion of visesi children caused caste law to tighten again the mid 22nd century, but overall the visesi consider themselves as human as the junya, and vice versa.
