Junya Human

Junya humans are "original" humans, without dramatic genetic modifications. Junya humans are sometimes called "pure-blooded", a term that is frowned upon in polite circles, but is still widely used in the general public. Despite genetic engineering being heavily regulated, even most junya humans have been enhanced a little - making them smarter, healthier, faster and stronger than their ancestors. For example, the average lifespan of a junya has risen to a little under a century, and aren't considered elderly until their eighties.

Junya, controversially, are considered "baseline" humans, to whom all other variants are judged. By law, any new variants need to be reproductively compatible with junya - that is, they should be able to produce fertile offspring.

History

Junya as a legal classificationonly came after the Years of Regrettable Action. The decision to categorize "normal" humans as a mere human variant was unpopular at first, but over the centuries has gained widespread acceptance. Though junya consider themselves "true" humans, the reality is "true" genetically unmodified humans are now exceedingly rare, and there is quite a bit of difference between them and the average human of the 2nd millennium. Junya are smarter, quicker, healthier, and longer-living than their unmodified ancestors.
Junya are the most common human variants throughout the galaxy, on most planets. Their longevity allows them to retain social and political power that the visesi and sankari lack, so they are powerful politically. Junya are disproportionately represented in the halls of power.
