Frog Sankari
The "beduka" or frog sankari were the first of the sankari. Engineered for the hostile environment of Undine, the beduka live isolated from most other human variants.
Beduka Traits
- Leaper: Beduka have long legs and can jump twice as far as usual. In addition they have +4 to damage if leaping as a part of a wild attack.
- Environmental Resistance: Beduka live in hot, humid environments that would kill humans. They recieve +4 bonus to resist and -4 damage from heat.
- Semi-Aquatic: Beduka can hold their breath for 15 minutes.
- Poisonous Touch: Descended from tree frogs, beduka have a poisoned touch, a powerful neurotoxin that exists in small quantities. With a successful touch attack, a victim must make a vigor roll or suffer the effects of a mild poison.
- Weak: Beduka have weak arms and backs. They suffer -2 to Strength and melee damage.
Civilization and Culture
Culture and Cultural Heritage
The beduka have the strongest cultural identity of the human variants, and even view themselves as apart from the rest of the sankari. Possessing their own language, media, art, fashion, and spirituality, the beduka have made it clear that they are a distinct people. They do not easily accept outsiders.
History
Undine was a hot, marshy world that would have been passed up for large-scale colonization except for the abundance of fossil fuels. Local drilling companies commissioned the beduka to work the rigs in environments that neither man nor machine would survive.
For quite some time, the beduka worked Undine, growing continually more restless as they were increasingly treated like work animals rather than people. In the late 22nd century, beduka insurgents carried out a protracted guerilla war on Undine until the mining companies were driven off. Undine is very much a world in beduka hands, and keeping it that way has been their main focus.
Currently the beduka-controlled UDPE controls the vast majority of oil and gas trade in the Federation.
Common Myths and Legends
Many beduka, despite all evidence to the contrary, believe they are an entirely separate species from humanity, exans native to Undine. Rich legends have been developed to support this idea, gods and histories of an Undine that knew no alien humans. The truth is that these legends are entirely fabricated and have no historical basis.
