Mental characteristics

Personal history

Before the great war that have determined all of Nimenra for the last millennia ever began, there was another age and era that was famous for warfare and battle: Jorvik. During this age, many actions turned into legend, and those who did them became heroes.
— Everam, Teller of Nimenra

The young days

Marr was born to a smith of a tribe called Narowfens and was brought up as a smiths apprentice by his father. The tribe had around 300 inhabitants living together with an extended rule over 500 people in other communities close to Narowfens. Marr's father was one of four smiths that had over generations made weapons and tools for their various needs.
In his early days as a child, Marr was rowdy and stubborn. It was said that he could not stay still for long and always was running around and doing something. As he grew up Marr did take his time to learn his father's practice and early was making various small things for others. However, he was still a frequent hunter and was known to be easily angered. While this could have been a problem as an adult, he still was patient and well-behaved enough to not do anything foolish when in anger.
As time did go by, Marr made his own family and eventually his father and mother passed away. While others participated in the time's warfare over resources and hunting grounds, Marr was mostly at home at the forge, creating new weapons for war and tools for peace.

The change

Some warriors are heroes to some, and villains to others.
— Everam, Teller of Nimenra
The Narowfens eventually would battle the Renvaren tribe of Holdest. Holdest was not very well known for Narowfens, which must have been why their leader thought they were an easy target. As it turned out, Holdest was far larger and more populous than Narowfens. The Holdest attacked back and killed several warriors and people of the Narowfens. They did, however, not stop and continued to target Narowfens. Norowfens had by the time Holdest reached their home lost most of their warriors.
Mar, who was in his late 30s, proceeded to take up a weapon and shield to defend his home. Together with 200 men and women, they stood to fight against an army of 500. The Narowfens leader charged in during the first skirmishes and died. Despite this, Mar did not lose heart and proceeded to challenge the enemy leader. The enemy leader, a chief subordinated to Holdest, known for having killed many in duels, accepted. Others urged Marr to not fight, but his stubbornness and anger were for once too much for others' reasoning. Marr and the chief fought and during this duel, Marr's sword strikes his opponents shield and was stuck. The chief is said to have mocked him, which in turn made only Marr more determined, and angry. As the chief hit Marr's shield, he took his hammer from his belt and caved in the chief's head.
Having seen their leader die, the enemies lost heart. Marr, however, did not stop at killing the chief and proceeded to attack the Holdestrians alone. Before the enemies broke from his and the rest of the Narowfens attack, Marr had killed 20 men with his hammer and shield.

A life of warfare

Mar became a champion in one day. While not a leader himself, Mar would fight on the frontline for his chief. The Holdestrians kept up a good resistance for a while up until they were defeated at the hands of Narowfens and another Renvaren tribe, the Herrnmeids. The last battle ended with Mar's duel against Areme, the tribe chief of Holdest. During the duel, Mar was struck above the head, seemingly killing him. That was not the case and as Areme boastfully celebrated, he was struck from behind by Mar several times before he was stabbed to death in the armpit. With the Holdest's defeat, Mar returned to his forge and anvil to create his weapon out of iron and Bremerin, a metal which he acquired from an ore he found on the riverbed of Holdest's lands. The blade looked like iron but was darker and more durable, even capable of being sharp for a longer time. This blade was known for being capable of burning while Mar fought against his opponents.
Marr participated from then on against other incursions and retaliations. Participating and defeating more opponents than many others, Marr's name became feared across the lands beyond the Wanerians and Renvarens as both a warrior and a capable leader. Marr would be attributed to fighting the creature called dragon from the mountains with the aid of several hundred men due to it terrorizing the lands. Marr would use its skin for boots. He would also find time to be by his forge, still making strong weapons and armour for his tribe.
Marr participated in his final battle at the age of 61, duelling a Telar champion who was much younger than him. Despite being aged and slowed, Marr won and wounded the champion but not without himself realizing his time had come. He ended his time as a warrior and fully returned to his smithy. Having no children of his own alive, his own sons had died during the wars and battles they had fought, he took on three apprentices that would learn from him. The last five years of his life were relatively peaceful, his tribe was in no danger anymore and he passed on what he had learnt to new people. His last work was said to have been an armour from the bones of the dragon that he with help slew long ago in his 50s.

Legacy

Marr died the year 578 V.D. and was given his own burial mound something rare for a non-leader of a tribe. One of the apprentices' sons, Erend Erendhal, would establish a warrior-cult that later turned into the Order of the Burning Forge due to Marr's legendary feat of being able to fight with a burning sword and handling the forge.
Marr's tale was recorded in a song, called the Song of Temper and Sword, which became popular as a Wanerian song for their strong stubbornness against being restrained and conquered. His tale and legend did also grow with the Renvaren and Telar people, who at times were frequent enemies to the Narowfens and other Wanerian tribes. They retold him as a villain for many years after his death, someone who had prevented the creation of kingdoms and countries. The Wanerian side of the tale, however, has prevailed over time and become the most appreciated and well-liked of the tale.

Intellectual Characteristics

While mostly known as a warrior and smith, both that demands intellectually characteristics themselves, Marr was also known as a good leader when he needed to be. He had an understanding of tactics beyond head-on strikes and charging. His most known leadership accomplishment was during a larger battle with an incursion of Telars. He surrounded the Telars even before they knew that Marr's men were there, and without a fight, force a surrender and moved the enemies out safely from their territory.
As a smith, Marr's work was on a high level of detail and precision. The weapons he forged was used by Wanerian chiefs, and later their chief-kings, and dulled slower than many other weapons. His use of the Bremerin metal were not accomplished beyond his apprentices and the Order of the Burning Forge. While this art has been lost to time, some of the weapons and armour said to have been forged by Marr is located with nobles and wealthy proprietors all over the Kingdom of Ravero and beyond.

Great hero backstory! I especially loved how you bring in his song and how it was modified when told by their enemy tribe.
