Gatewatch
Gatewatch is the north western district of Hachenberg, and sits on the western bank of the
Libben.
Description
Gatewatch is a squalid part of town dominated by beggars, thieves and mad folk. Its buildings are haphazardly built from whatever materials have been scavenged from other structures. There are no streets in Gate Watch, since there was no official building of the area. As such the area doesn’t follow any pattern or law of civil engineering. In spring, waters from the Libben frequently flood the west bank, leaving the ground as a quagmire, making the already decrepit buildings lean in random directions as they sink into the mud.
Demographics
No one chooses to live in Gatewatch. It is a wasteland of stone and weeds. The people it attracts are those suffering from the worst luck and are so untouchable not even the
Frog Town Militia will allow them entry. When in Gatewatch, expect to see beggars, thieves, the insane and every other form of social pariah.
Majority Influence
The
Constabulary avoids Gatewatch, which has made it a den for criminals.
Services
The services of Gatewatch are few, even basic services like water and sanitation are lacking. Due to this, other opportunities arise, mainly, the purchase of the illegal drug
Steam . Though this is only a byproduct of Gatewatch’s main attribute, a complete lack of law enforcement. Even the Inquisition and the Karbonite Soldiers will only enter there when given absolute proof of wrongdoing.
Notable Locations
‘The Hole’, the first permanent home of the protagonists is here.
History
Gatewatch was once a fortress that was the sister to
The Bastion. Years without any western invasion left the fortress abandoned and it slowly ruined over centuries. Eventually the fortress was stripped down by the denizens of Gatewatch to build their own houses.
