Foundry District
Intro
The oppressive, smoke-filled, air claws at the throat before anyone can truly enter the Foundry District. From across the city, the dark grey plumes of smoke and steam rising from the area are visible, coating the districts around it in thick smog and tar. Rows and rows of metal production lines make up the main body of the district, with huge furnaces that back onto the Libben for smelting karbon. Nothing living grows in this backbone of industry, which provides the majority of the city's exports. The area is run by the Karbonites, with Karbonite soldiers patrolling through the smog to keep order and peace. Only those used to working in smithies or smelting can breathe easy in the area, adapted from the years of breathing in the toxins of metal. Those who come from outside these professions must cover their mouths with a damp cloth, and still risk choking on the smell of burning and soot.
Description
Orderly rows of towering foundries line the straight roads, the tops of which are obscured by the thick cloud of smog that looms constantly above the district. The streets are populated every hour of the day by clanking kettle knights, hulking furnace golems and armies of apprentice smiths and labourers from Westbank there to keep the fires hot to smelt the precious karbon steel.Demographic
There are no living quarters in The Foundry District. The people come and go in the district are legions of labourers, operating machines in the great foundries or shovelling shod into the river. These are overseen by the stern forefolk whose job it is to make sure the entire district is working to its utmost efficiency. Below the forefolk are the kettle knights, there to enforce the forefolk’s demands and to punish the idle. Finally, above all are the praetors, each one assigned to a foundry and acting like militant factory managers.Majority Influence
The area is run by the Karbonites, with Karbonite soldiers, colloquially known as kettle knights, patrolling through the smog to keep order and peace. Not even the constabulary patrol the foundry district, the smoke is too acrid and the steel-clad fanatics are too unnerving to patrol or even chase a criminal into there. The Karbonites are a law unto themselves, a law they uphold zealously.Services
The Karbonites are always welcoming of anyone who’s willing to work hard and pay higher than any other unskilled labourer in the city. For those rich enough it’s also possible to buy the prized karbon steel which is produced here en masse. It’s also possible to purchase a liquid called Black Magic, deadly to the touch, but if refined correctly is used to make the drug steam.Purple on the coloured layer
