Sol System
Sol is the home of humanity, its birthplace, and its jewel. It has remained at the centre of most of Human life since they first began colonising the stars. The most important planet in Sol remains Earth, which has, over the past hundred years, grown significantly in population and in production. It is well on its way to becoming an Ecumenopolis, with metropolitan sprawl found all across the land.
Sol
The Sun needs no introduction. It is the mother star, and the symbol of Humanity. Beyond its cultural importance, humanity has largely left the Sun alone. There are orbital stations and satellites, but Humanity has largely focused on other, more important tasks. Attempts to construct a Dyson Swarm have instead been focused on other, more appropriate places, such as the M-Type Barnard's Star. For the most part, Sol itself remains untouched by Humanity, with many advocating against any sort of megaprojects focused on it, largely for spiritual and historical reasons.Mercury
Mercury is now largely considered to be one giant strip mine. It has been harvested for numerous large-scale projects, providing the vast majority of material used in the construction of humanity's first generation ships. Since the advent of commercial FTL, Mercury has been sold off to the highest bidders, with numerous corporations on the ground actively harvesting it and selling off the materials.Venus
Venus is home to countless Humans, most of whom reside in Venus' upper atmosphere. It produces a large amount of food for the Sol System, with massive floating farms constructed atop every habitat. The average impression of Venus that most people have is that it is full of Farmers and Landowners. Rich and Poor. A mixed bag really.Earth
Earth is the big one. The home world of Humanity. Climate Change forced most people either off-world, or into large cities, rebuilt to support a massive urban population, and to enact radical enviromental changes. The result is an Earth that is home to countless large megacities, well on its way to becoming an Ecumenopolis. In order to counter some of the most dire effects of climate change, Humanity was forced to move the majority of its production centres off-world, importing goods and exporting government. It is the capital of the United Nations of Sol, with most of its offices and headquarters located on the planet. Earth was the first planet to be absorbed into Sol's bureaucratic state. Most of its cultures and traditions fled into space, where they have been kept alive by their descendants. On Earth, much has been sacrificed to achieve unification, resulting in a largely homogenous Earther population.Luna
The Moon is largely a retreat for Earth's rich, home to country clubs and estates all across the land. The towns and cities spread across Luna are largely gambling cities, or resort towns, and all geared exclusively towards rich tourism. Despite this, life is pretty comfortable for the non-rich of Luna, as there is always some rich tourist just waiting to be convinced to depart with their wallet, willingly or otherwise.Mars
Mars is the fourth planet from Sol and the second-smallest planet in the Sol System. It has, after two hundred years of continuous effort, finally become mostly habitable. The air is thin, but breathable, and plants have begun to sprout across the reddened surface. The great Martian Ocean is slowly filling up, inadvertently drowning most settlements in the northern hemisphere. Life on Mars is extremely common, and quite boring. Unlike Earth, Mars has remained happily divided ever since its colonisation. At least three-hundred independent states are present on Mars, and at least a hundred more that are unrecognised by Sol. For the United Nations, as long as the resources keep coming, and the people of Mars don't kill themselves off, they're more than happy to let them squabble and disagree over territory and the way to run a country. There are quite a few Martian Kings and Queens who bend the knee to Sol in exchange for recognition.Beyond Mars
Beyond Mars lies the Asteroid Belt, the Gas Giants, and the Great Beyond (Kuiper and Oort). Jupiter and Saturn are home to Sol's earliest harvesters, where they learned how to scoop the atmospheres of gas giants for their resources. Most of the settlements out here are old, very old. There are hundreds, if not thousands of individual settlements, most of which are marked on the map and regularly visited by Sol, but some remain isolated and forgotten, just the way they want it to be.
