Luhman 16

Luhman 16 is a binary brown dwarf system located around 6.5 light-years from Sol. It has no exoplanets, and is not connected to any bluespace gateway system. Despite its proximity to Sol, it has a very low population compared to nearby systems. The only thing saving this system from being an ignored backwater is the Luhmans 16 Star Lift Project. The brainchild of a rich, eccentric Martian businessman, the project is designed to produce vast amounts of energy by tapping into the failed star's deuterium fusion. While the project has so far failed to produce any meaningful results, it has been an incredible boon to scientists across human space as an insight into the inner workings of these mysterious objects.

L.S.L.P.

The Luhmans 16 Star Lift Project was established in the mid 23rd Century by Martian businessman and inventor Jon Pertwee. It is designed to harvest energy produced by Luhman 16a and b by tapping into its deuterium fusion. Construction has been ongoing for roughly thirty years, with the project reaching around seventy percent completion. The Star Lift has been the source of much activity in the scientific field, with countless researchers working on the project over the years. Rumour persist of funding and production issues, but have all largely been dismissed as false.
