Barnard's Star
Barnard's Star is a red dwarf star system located around 6 light-years from Sol. It is home to one inhabited exoplanet, a large super-earth named Emerson.
The system is home to a large consortium of Free Trade Union orbital stations and offices, and is widely considered to be their de facto headquarters. The FTU runs many trade routes out of Barnard's Star. Most notable are the ones between Moghes, and the Skrell, who both maintain corporate offices in the system.
Emerson
Emerson is a large and inhospitably cold, mountainous exoplanet. From initial observation, the high gravity, freezing temperatures, and inhospitable surface conditions would suggest no life could exist on this planet. Yet under the surface, much of the planet is covered in large karsts, some filled with large lakes, and fed by the planet's geothermal activity. Most of these lakes are alive with alien life. The planet's heavy gravity keeps its internal mechanisms working, fueling a large underground ecosystem. The planet has been colonised by many humans adapted for life on this planet, coming to be known as Gravity-Adapted Humans. Many of these karst areas have been converted into colonies, harvesting the planet's boundless volatiles and minerals. It is hard for a non-adapted human to live on this world, and as a result, it has become a homeworld of sorts for the Grav-Adapts. The planet is named Emerson after E. E. Barnard, who discovered the system.
