Mercury

Mercury is the first planet in the Sol System.  It is now largely considered to be one giant strip mine. Once the innermost terrestrial planet in the system, it has become home to many harvesters, providing the vast majority of material used to produce the SCG's needs. Due to its stable and unique rotational period, tremendously hostile conditions, and huge exploitable solar power potential, Mercury is the single largest and oldest automated factory hub in human space. Much of the output of the colossal factory complexes is shunted into orbit for use in the construction of new capital ships and orbital habitats in the rest of the system. There are few long-term settlements on the planet's surface, with only a few habitats on the edge of the mining areas. Instead the capital, Odin Station, is located in high Mercurial orbit.
