Republic of Yuklid
The Republic of Yuklid, known internally as the United Provinces of Yuklid, is a unitary planetary republic that governs the planet Yuklid V. The Republic is comprised of individual Provinces, vast areas of land that comprise the colonised parts of the jungle world. Each province is largely autonomous, with distinct cultural and national identities. The capital of the Republic ls Iyeegi.
The first Yuklid Colonial Republic was founded in 2205, where it represented the needs of the growing colonies. It became a founding member of the First Lordanian Republic. As the needs of the Yuklid colonies increased, so too did their desire for self governance and a transition away from colonial adminstration. This would culminate in the Independence Riots , with a large number of protestors and radicals exiled to the newly founded Pinascimate Penal Authority. In the end, the desire for moderate, conservative reform won out, with the Provincial System being developed in the optimistic years following the end of the riots. This optimism was destroyed during the Lordanian Economic Collapse of ‘53, with growing unrest, and food shortages. Yuklid remained relatively united throughout the crisis, but became a hotbed of loyalty for the Unitarian Party, who spread a dangerous, fascist message. However despite this growing darkness all across the Cluster, prominent members of the Yuklid Republic recognised the danger for what it was, most notably being Cho Hyun-joo, who was the target of numerous assassination attempts, surviving well into the era of the People's Republic of Lordania, until she was forced into hiding by the Purge of '66 . Following this, the United Provinces of Yuklid became the People's Republic of Yuklid, a puppet state and completely at the whim of the Unitarians, who governed each province like petty kings, taking what they wanted, and often killing each other for the throne It was a dark, and dangerous time, with many heading deep into the jungles to form bands of Resistance. One of the most prominent faiths of the modern cluster, Arywenn, saw a massive growth in this period, working alongside The Brotherhood to form various Government-In-Exiles. Most notably, the voice of Cho Hyun-joo served a warm reminder of the fight against the Unitarians, and her return to the planet following the collapse of the People's Republic made her effectively seen as the Mother of the Republic. Under her Presidency, the republic returned to the provincial system, and officially adopted the guiding philosophy of Socialism with Arywenn Characteristics. It became a founding member of the Second Lordanian Republic, making it a part of the United Nations of Sol-Aligned Systems.
Yuklid is a Presidential Republic, with its President serving as head of state and head of government. The official ideology of the Republic is Socialism with Spiritualist Characteristics, which is defined in the 2282 Constitution, written Yuklid's first post-PRL president Cho Hyun-joo.
Structure
Yuklid has been governed by a presidential system since 2282. Between 2264 and 2280, it was governed directly by the People's Republic, and consolidated into the Yuklid State, which was governed directly by appointment from above. In 2280, following the collapse of the People's Republic, the appointed President, Sánchez Montago, peacefully stepped down to allow Cho Hyun-joo to take power and draft the 2282 Constitution, which removed all influence of the Unitarian Party and declared Arywenn the official ideology of the Republic. It also establishes the three branches of power within the government.
History
Yuklid V was colonised between 2170 and 2190 during the Great Expansion Era of the First Solar Republic It, alongside several other planets in the Lordanian Cluster, were colonised in a relatively short period of time. Much of Yuklid's interior is harsh jungle, and so these first settlements were established at the temperate polar regions, such as Iyeegi. As the settlers explored their world, they discovered the harsh and thick jungles were the perfect conditions for botanical work. This led to a transition from uninteresting public colony towards a significant private sector. With her public break from the Brotherhood, Yuklid was placed under blockade, and this resulted in the arrival of the United Nations of Sol-Aligned Systems, who helped to negotiate an end to the blockade and the formation of a Second Lordanian Republic.
Under her Presidency, the republic returned to the provincial system, and officially adopted the guiding philosophy of Socialism with Arywenn Characteristics. It became a founding member of the , making it a part of the . By the modern day Yuklid has reached a population of twenty-five million. The Senate has not counted for such a rapid population growth such few years, leading to the expansion of the Yuklid Intercontinental Highway, and a series of jungle containment acts. The pharmaceutical industries have been funding various expansions of their facilities on the planet, owing to favourable trading conditions around the turn of the century.
