Cho Hyun-joo
Hyun-joo Cho (a.k.a. The Lotus President)
Cho Hyun-joo is a retired Yuklidian politician who, alongside Jacques Garcin and Louis Poincaré founded The Brotherhood in response to the People's Republic of Lordania's attempted purge of moderate and opposing political figures, Hyun-joo included.
Serving as the representative of Yuklid during the later years of the first Lordanian Republic, she was a vocal and critical opponent of the Unitarian Party, and of Leonard Percy. This made her a target of many failed smear campaigns, and the target of several failed assassination attempts, which only served to further her reputation and legacy amongst the people of Jeonbaek and Yuklid. Eventually forced underground alongside the rest of Brotherhood leadership, she became the voice of the Yuklid Government-in-Exile, her face and voice distributed across the planet in illegal broadcasts, with millions across the planet tuning in.
Following the collapse of the People's Republic, and the subsequent Interregnum, Yuklid was placed under Brotherhood military blockade, in response to a refusal from the occupying forces to surrender. While a full-scale invasion of Yuklid by the Brotherhood would have been impossible, that did not stop military leader Louis Poincaré from attempting, an act which caused Hyun-joo to dissent from her fellow leaders, calling for the Yuklid Government-In-Exile to return to the planet, on which public opinion was swiftly turning against the Brotherhood for their costly blockade.
Hyun-joo made a very public return to Yuklid in 2282, despite still being considered an 'enemy of the state'. Instead of being arrested upon landing at the Jeonbaek Spaceport, her craft was mobbed by crowds of adoring and supportive citizens, who, according to local history, paraded Hyun-joo around the city as the "President of United Yuklid". Aiming to find a solution to the Yuklid Interregnum that followed the key tenants of Yuklidean Spiritualism, Hyun-joo was denounced by both Poincaré and Garcin for her reconciliation efforts with former members of the Unitarian Party, stating that all were guilty of crime, and all deserved a trial.
In the final years of the Lordanian Interregnum, Hyun-joo was instrumental in allowing negotiations between the United Systems of Sol, helping to found the Second Lordanian Republic on Yuklid, in 2287. Following this, she announced her intent to retire from politics in the year 2290, and that she would serve the next three years as President of Yuklid, helping to rebuild and re-establish the government as a legitimate instrument of the people. She declined to serve a third term, and stepped down as president on July 18th 2290.
Widely regarded as one of the most successful presidents in Yuklidean history, she is well loved, and well respected by the planet's population.

Hyun-joo has spent decades crafting her public persona. As a young senator, she was seen as the fiery voice of youth and social politics, who was not afraid of challenging established authority and injustice. During her time in the Brotherhood, as the voice of the Yuklidian Government-in-Exile, she maintained the air of a dignified and brave soldier, fighting fascism and evil, knowing that victory would eventually come and playing the voice of hope and revolution. Upon her return to Yuklid in 2282, her work in rebuilding the government led her to be seen almost as the 'Mother of the Nation'. While she shied away from the idea of government as a parental role, having just defeated a paternal state, that did not stop the people of Yuklid from imbuing her with these attributes. She is seen as a stern, but fair parent, who genuinely wants what is best, but is not afraid to push you to achieve it.
In recent years, Hyun-joo has lamented the fact that she is seen as a 'stern mother' in politics, owing to the fact she, allegedly, entered politics on the urge of her overbearing and well-meaning parents, and that she had never intended this to be her life.
