Snowcloak Dominion
Only a few decades ago, the lands now called the Snowcloak Dominion were fractured and vulnerable. Raiding giants from the Tharovand Peaks trampled through remote villages. The savage clans of the Skjolgardt poured across frozen passes in blood-fueled hunts. The corruption that twisted once-noble creatures into monsters—both magical and moral—crept ever southward.
It was in this chaos that Philus Eber, a war-leader originally of the Skjolgardt, rose to prominence. With a coalition of nobles and military leaders, he forged fragile alliances between cities, groves, and mountain clans. By weaponizing Cryo-mithral he gained an edge none could match.
Eber’s forces broke the giant warbands and routed Skjolgardt warlords, uniting the region. In the ashes of conflict, he declared the formation of a new kingdom: the Snowcloak Dominion, named for the white-cloaked lands it ruled and the resilience of its people.
The Snowcloak Dominion is a land of resilience, ambition, and contradiction—born from necessity, driven by conquest, and held together by shared survival. It is respected, feared, and increasingly questioned, both by outsiders and its own citizens.
Structure
The Dominion is ruled by House Eber, from the glacial city of Cromital, and supported by a collection of lesser noble houses drawn from cities like Whittlestead and Graepor.
Culture
- Civic life emphasizes service and strength. Martial discipline, arcane education, and faith in the Divine are cornerstones of Dominion society.
- While the people are taught that the Divine blesses unity and order, cracks are growing: whispers of corruption in House Eber, unrest among conscripted elves, and the rise of outlawed sects seeking to escape the Dominion’s cold grip.
- Religion remains prominent, but the clergy are often tightly bound to the throne, serving as moral justification for the Dominion’s expansionist policies. The Hearth Altar in Cromital remains the spiritual heart of the realm.

Military Dominance
The Snowcloak Dominion is a militarized realm, proud of its disciplined troops, enchanted armaments, and well-fortified cities.
- Cryo-mithral is the backbone of the Dominion's military supremacy. Light, resilient, and capable of channeling frost magic, it’s used in weapons, armor, and siege engines alike. The Nightfeathers, an elite order of Owlin warriors and mages, serve as the Dominion’s vanguard in magical warfare.
- The Dominion fields frost-trained legions, many raised in Cromital or Graepor, where conscription is normalized and military training is mandatory by the age of sixteen.
- A web of fortresses and watchposts span the northern reaches, including two island forts north of Graepor, where the Dominion's fleets launch against Skjolgardt raiding ships and other naval threats.
- Ships and barges equipped with ballistae control the trade and military traffic through the frozen canals and sea routes, allowing rapid deployment and defense.
History
Territorial Expansion
Philus Eber’s reign has seen rapid territorial growth. The Dominion has absorbed smaller neighbors—sometimes peacefully, often not.
- The Tower of Lunaris, once independent and secluded, was integrated under the promise of mutual protection. Though owlin culture is respected in public, Dominion administrators increasingly pressure them for arcane support and military scouting.
- The Hoarwood Grove, long a bastion of Eladrin autonomy, had maintained a delicate relationship with the Dominion. The Eladrin permitted the sustainable harvest of their forest in exchange for protection and mutual respect. However, this relationship deteriorated as the Dominion expanded its ambitions. Tensions reached a boiling point when demands for greater access to the forest were met with staunch resistance from the Eladrin. A war eventually erupted, spurred by the Dominion’s desire to claim the Hoarwood’s resources fully and bring the Eladrin under its control. The conflict, known as the Scouring of the Hoarwood, was brutal, with heavy casualties on both sides.
- Graepor, once an independent trade city, now serves as the Dominion’s industrial capital.
Though many acknowledge the benefits of Dominion rule—protection, unity, infrastructure—others call it thinly veiled imperialism, especially as conscription and cultural assimilation become more aggressive. Settlements to the south in the North Blight in particular have felt the pressure from their northern neighbors. Border tensions between the Dominion and the North Blight have escalated in recent years. Skirmishes and border raids are increasingly common, with each side accusing the other of trespass or sabotage. King Eber’s court believes that open war is approaching, and military build-up in the North Blight has already begun.
