Owlin
The Owlins, humanoid creatures with the graceful features and soft wings of owls, are a species born of powerful magic. They were created long ago by Human mages, who, enamored with their pet owls, used spells to grant their feathered companions humanoid forms, transferring their souls into these new bodies. Though once rare, the Owlins have since reproduced at such a rate that they now rival humans in population within many cities. However, the magic that created them has become discouraged, as the introduction of a new race into the world has had unforeseen effects on the balance of life and magic.
The Gift of Magic
Due to their magical origins, Owlins are gifted spellcasters, each possessing an innate font of magic that courses through their very being. This magic is not only for their personal use but can also be shared with others, making them both potent allies and skilled enchanters. Despite their magical talents, Owlins rarely form large communities of their own, called parliaments. Instead, they live in fellowship with humans, preferring to blend seamlessly into human society.
The Price of Selfishness
The generosity of the Owlin people is well known. They are often eager to share their knowledge, magic, and resources with others. However, this altruism comes with a caution. Those who become selfish and self-centered, hoarding their magic for personal gain, face a dire transformation. These corrupted Owlins become Kreelix—dark, bat-like creatures with leathery wings and a hunger for power. Kreelix are capable of stripping magic from others, draining their essence to fuel their own twisted desires. The transformation from Owlin to Kreelix is a warning to all Owlins to keep their hearts and intentions pure, lest they fall into darkness.
