The Tale of Toranti and Kaztora

The first tale of tomaktur.

"Gather round children and listen to the stories of our heroes, passed to us from them through our ancestors, to your seventhfathers and seventhmothers, down the line and now to you.   It was the first great heroes, the siblings Toranti and Kaztora, who began the tomaktur, the storytelling tradition that we carry into the future. Their story begins with an island-shaking giant and a dream..."

Summary

In this story the siblings Toranti and Kaztora unite the lizardfolk tribes for the first time in history against the threat of a giant. To gain the aid of the other tribes they must trade, fight, and marry. The tale begins with the two siblings together before going off on their own and joining forces at the climax.   Kaztora meets the Outdwellers who teach her to use her voice to sing a great weapon into existence. This knowledge costs her years and when she emerges after what felt like minutes, her child has grown into a warrior.   At the climax Toranti uses the Island Splitter to save the united tribes from the giant. The heroes do not perish in battle against the giant and live to tell their story. The end directly addresses the audience by reminding them that they are hearing the story told by the first great heroes.
