Taopinism Organization in Laminarum | World Anvil

Taopinism

Taopinism shares many similarities with Snow-Rock Bailumism but it asserts that Taopin is the chief god of the pantheon, rather than Bailum. The justification for this shift is found in "The Grace of Taopin,"  in which Taopin left two human individuals were left alive when the rest of the species was destroyed. Later, in the myth "Reincarnate Promise, Vorehem's Voyage," it is stated that Taopin would gain the domain of reincarnation to make amends with Bailum. Today, the lives of those who were lost are still believed to be reincarnated as part of this promise, making Taopin a dominant presence in everyday life.

Origin

Taopinism existed as a minor religious sect for centuries before the Augury took power, but it would not gain its name or modern status until the year 1600 MD . The Augury was hesitant to shift its religion for over a century, but when it became clear that they would need to distance themselves from the failed Saltkrigere Empire it would only take months for churches to be established throughout Trinen.

Modern Implementation

Taopinism can be found in any barony around Trinen, though its presence in Shellbay often goes unappreciated compared to Snow-Rock Bailumism. Compared to its predecessors, Taopinism puts more emphasis on the separation of research and medicine from the church while also presenting figures of authority as near-divine beings.   Taopinist churches rarely produce paladins and congregate their resources in large cities while ignoring smaller settlements. It's the opinion of the Taopinists that heroes such as the paladins are a thing of the past: individuals to be revered as ancient Saint's rather than a contemporary idea. In general, the relaxed perspective toward producing modern miracles is all in the name of adaptability; any religion or deity should be able to exist to keep the masses appeased, but all must recognize the Ohfjuren as the authority over all things.

After the Silence

Following The Silence , no one knew what to expect when Laminarum was removed from the universe of planes. Thankfully, connection to the gods remained intact through faith. The mechanisms behind our continued connection remain unknown, though it has led many to theorize that faith and mental connection cross more than space and time, unlike the physical gods themselves.   Taopinism remains dominant but has lost popularity due to the lack of relief granted to those after the tragic events brought on by Arniel Kane, but Nostula Turases would take advantage of this shortcoming to push Snow-Rock Bailumism into the modern era.
