Nostula Turases

Saltkrigere General Nostula Turases (a.k.a. The Butcher)

Nostula Turases was most notoriously the general of the Saltkrigere, but he had a long and storied climb that led to his eventual ascension from a mere head of guard to the most powerful man in Shellbay. His family had grown deep roots in the separatist city for centuries, reaching back as far as the Skaldson family during the Rembrandtic Wars. Nostula would spend most of his career as the head of guard within Shellbay (still a great honor), but it wasn't until the Silence that his career bolstered his family into a legacy that could never be forgotten.   Seemingly taking a demotion by becoming the Warden of an Augury prison within Mot D'nir after the assassination of the Augurs, the year that followed saw his powers grow three fold. Nostula would be promoted to the head of guard in Augur's End after the presumed death of Caius Warrick. The first choice, Efan Turases, was also missing at this time, leaving the Archduke to select Nostula as a suitable replacement.   Nostula would plunge the city into a state of wartime precaution while spreading the good word of Bailum and banning any and all Ithitar worship within the city. While the Archduke, Ongar Stone-Grower, disagreed with many of his actions, the guards in the city had grown loyal to the Butcher (after those loyal to what the city's namesake represented had left for the new settlement of Wyrmwood). In due time, Nostula would come to support the city of Goldwalk with their own money (that he acquired through dubious means). The only catch was to suppress Ithitar worship within the city. It wasn't until the city was nearly destroyed by worshippers of Chal Churdour and the subsequent death of the duke of Goldwalk that his requests were fully realized. With the unfortunate death of the duke, Nostula saw that his brother, Hagas Turases would be promoted by strong arming Archduke Stone-Grower into pursuing "like minds for peace."   Nostula Turases would leave his post as head of guard on bad terms, with Archduke Stone-Grower replacing the Butcher with his cool-headed nephew, Efan Turases. At this point, Nostula would go and serve as a council member under the newly promoted lord of the Emilsen Family during the group's one positive bout of history. The prior lord was unveiled as a vampire at the hands of Efan Turases and subsequently slain by his overwhelmed pupil.   Nostula's time at Twinskeep would be short. When the treachery by Archduke Stone-Grower was cast in daylight and execution followed, Efan Turases would rise to take his place. The boy made amends with his uncle and the family remained in peace for several years as they reveled in the acknowledgement for the massive advancements they had brought to the Augury. The notoriety hardly went unnoticed. Efan was formally instated as archduke of the marsh by the Augury, Hagas maintained his position as duke, and a close family friend would come to head Jadethorn Prison. Nostula himself was promoted to Saltkrigere General back home, where he quickly proved himself by shutting down Eldurgrund's rebellion against the Augury.   His career would bring him back to the west coast eventually, as he assisted Caripreet's attempt to take Ghei Wyl with a small Saltkrigere fleet. Heading this fleet would be Efan Turases. The siege was ultimately a failure, with the Efan perishing in the final battle before the retreat. The event would serve as fuel to Nostula's fire, resulting in several more campaigns against Ghei Wyl while he guided Efan's children on the facets of leadership. Each campaign would fail, just as they had in the past. These assaults on the elves would serve as the one stain on Nostula's career, unfortunately making it stand out in his storied legacy.
