The Ghei Wyl Campaigns

Military: War

1813
1842

The 3 separate campaigns waged by the Caripreet to take the east coast of Silse. All attempts would fail.

After centuries of serving as the odd barony out, a new installment of oligarchs wished to prove themselves to the Augury by way of expansion, just as Shellbay had into the marsh. Communication with their neighbors across the sea had been limited, and most had come from lands allied with Nim. Caripreet had been relatively uninformed about Eastern Elvish society, but their first major failure was lack of knowledge regarding Ghei Wyl's political alignment. The greatest impact being the lack of knowledge regarding Ghei Wyl's lack of phobia against magic, as most within Nim felt.   Lacking much in the way of military forces, Caripreet would have to reach out to those they trusted with such a siege. Their first choice would be Nostula Turases, who had slowly begun to shift his activity from his native home of Shellbay to a family manor he had erected north of the mountains of Newmot. When approached, General Turases felt that he had accomplished most of what he had desired from the marsh and agreed to fight in this one last war that he hoped would pad his legacy of success. Nostula called to his nephew, Efan Turases, who had forces lined at the hip thanks to his position of archduke over the marsh. While the Saltkrigere was occupied, Nostula trusted that he and his nephew could command these marsh folk into a force to be reckoned with.

First Attack of the Coast: 1815, 5 Silber - 21 Chaiber

The first attempt on the coast was a failure, as they had set up camps along the beaches, believing they would be too distant from the mountains of Ghei Wyl to be detected. While they were correct, their failure would come from the recognition by a fishing barge on its way to Poueir. While the barge was not aligned with the independent city, the sailor's innate sense of El-kinship made them change course and inform those at Ghei Wyl of the anomaly. Few elders amongst the elves had remembered the days during the The War of Eyiliv  , when the humans had first attempted to take their land. They warned that the humans could not be trusted, and their camps were to be snuffed out. A force of magic inclined El was built and would move on the camps at night.   Those that spent their days tending the ships said that few from the camps survived the attacks. The waters grew tumultuous as the tide came in, washing away the tents and drowning the defenses. With clothes drenched, armor waterlogged, and fire snuffed, the soldiers were ambushed and slaughtered by berserker units, not that the humans could make out the shapes in the pitch black. The fleet would split, with most fleeing north while 3 ships sent word back to Caripreet for support.

Capture of the Coast, Forest Villages: 1823, 18 Feimber - 2 Silber

After smaller failed attempt to capture land had all failed, General Nostula Turases decided to send his nephew to command the invasion in-person. Serving as commander, Efan Turases managed to convince several other Saltkrigere Paladins to join the cause, championing the spread of Bailum to the elves. The attack was successful at first, with the new coast defenses being drowned out of their defenses using oil and fire, while arrows rained down on those that fled. The structures that still stood were used as a temporary outpost. The elves had built sufficient walls that they used for defense and few stone buildings that the paladins would reside in. Trenches were dug by the soldiers and intermittently filled with oil so that water could not douse their flames and vision in the night. Armor was to be hung high and an order was sent back to General Nostula Turases to see a shipment of horses delivered, as Efan set his sight on the distant villages and forests. Naturally, Each paladin had their own steeds brought from the onset of the mission, leaving Efan to lead paladin scouting missions on the back of his Stallion, Shalivar.   When the rest of the steeds arrived, the invaders managed to easily subjugate the villages, forcing them to surrender at the mere sight of storm magic. Efan got to work establishing a Consilium in the villages, explaining that the Augury and its gods would not abandon the villagers as their leaders at Ghei Wyl had. Though this was partially true, their leaders beyond the mountain had been gearing up for a plan. to slay the forces once they got beyond the forest.   When the invaders pushed onward, they escaped the forest and were met with short plains before the great mountains. Knowing that the city was on the other side, the difficult traversal decision was made to leave the horses and climb so that storms could be waged on the elves from above. The elves had anticipated this, however, and descended on the humans with a newly purchased force of Manoine. These hulking war beasts combined with magics of fire and water would crush the invaders. The invaders would be forced to retreat, but their commander was lost amongst the chaos, falling to the crashing rubble alongside his steed.

Last Attempt on Silse: 1826 - 1842

After failing twice to take Silse and losing his nephew to the previous attempt, Nostula Turases was beginning to feel the mark on his legacy. He would console the late commander's children while spending years growing a force that could finally take land from the elves permanently. The same motivation was not present in the forces of Caripreet who were ready to give up their pathetic attempts thus far. General Turases was aware how the war looked from the outside, and as such would not bring the Saltkrigere into the mix.   Unfortunately for Nostula, the attempts to take Silse would all fail in his lifetime, permanently staining his career of success. He would pass away before the final attempt was made, sponsored by one of Efan's sons, who waged the last war purely on the basis of avenging his father. Like all others, this attempt would fail after several lackluster battles filled with demotivated soldiers.
