The Bear-Bug Report

General Summary

Cyren, Talia, and Dathania Cavebear go to a nearby village that is having something hunt animals and people. The hunters who went after it earlier couldn't find it, and one of them disappeared during the hunt, so they called the Lord to help them.   The creature looks like a cross between a giant insect and some kind of mammalian creature. It doesn't have the sectional body of an insect, rather it has a solid body, with six legs, two arms, a long neck. a large head with mandibles before its mouth so strong they are capable of crushing a shield or a knight in armour.   The three of them lure the creature with a dead cow and then herd it where they have set up a couple of log fall traps. They have also recruited six hunters from the local area to help them. The traps work, but only upset the creature. Because of how tough it is, at this point half of the hunters flee!   The smoke prevents the creature from fleeing, so it fights. During the fight Talia is severely injured and Cyren is also quite hurt. She and Cyren being knocked down causes the rest of the hunters to flee. Dathania, however, fights amazingly well, and it is her attacking of the creature's four eyes that eventually ends up winning the day. Once the creature is killed, Cyren and Dathania run back to Talia to find she is unconscious. Cyren uses his wizard's mark to call Adaon. Once Adaon arrives, he finds that Talia is almost dead, so he stabilizes her magically. He then performs surgery and saves her life. She is transported back to Bear Keep to rest and heal.   Adaon also heals Cyren's wound.   Cyren takes a large part of the carapace of the creature, then goes to the village covered in creature goo. He smells so bad that he has gagged several times, despite his extreme success on his constitution check. He then chastises the hunters for running away, but praises the whole village for getting his help. He then has each hunter come and give him a hug. All but one of them pukes, one even passing out from the smell. He then goes to Bear Keep to be with Talia and Dathania.   Late on Kursi 41
Adaon then goes back to Porte-Entre-Portes. Ivan has disappeared. Adaon figures that Ivan went wandering, knowing him, so he tracks him using his "nose of the bloodhound" spell. He hears Ivan pretending to howl. So, Adaon then tries to howl, using his amplify spell. Several howls return. Adaon figures these are actual wolves, not werewolves.   In searching for signs of the werewolf, Ivan stumbles across a buried carcass of a some kind of deer. They examine it and conclude that this has been here for about a day, so it is highly unlikely to be the werewolf. So, they decide to hike towards the mountains where they heard the wolves howling. After a whole night of searching they give up and go back to the city.   They report to the guard office and report about the destroyed village where the ghouls were. The captain there is puzzled and writes all the notes down about this. Then they go and get the pork from Adaon's cabin and transit back to Bear Keep.   Kursi 42
When Ivan and Adaon get back Cyren is gone hunting. They take a few choice pieces of the meat and give the rest to Griz. Meanwhile Cyren has found an elk, so he sneaks up on it and shoots it with his crossbow. He hits it very well, and it bursts away with blood pouring from its side. He follows it and catches up through the snow 20 minutes later and finds that it has died from the blood loss. Cyren dresses it and takes the meat back, taking a few choice steaks for Talia and Dathania. He keeps the hide from himself and has it tanned. He and Dathania then go back to the creature they recently killed and take a few of the claws as well as the head for trophies, preserving them appropriately. This will give all three of them big bragging rights at next summer's great gathering. The few Hallu who have joined them here are quite impressed that the three of them killed this creature, as it is normally considered only appropriate for a dozen hunters to work together to kill one.   At this point the group decides to spend 15 days (3 weeks) training.   Cyren trains his warrior skill for the max he can, concentrating only on this skill, so he can become a master.

Adaon studies economist/administrator and write and read Valkran. He uses magic to cheat. He is also practicing some illusion spells.

Ivan practices his hammer skill while still doing his duties as baron.   Hudsi 13
Ivan realizes that he has to start taxing his citizens in order to afford the repairs and upkeep of his realm. He's implementing a low taxation system. He travels around as quick as possible to announce these around the barony, stating that they will come in effect as at Aratansi 1. Additionally, serfs will now be permitted to retain 1/4 of what they produce. Of course this upsets the lower nobility, but pleases the newly made peasants (since serfdom is no longer a thing once this is implemented).
With Ivan's announcement he does whatever he can to ensure that all people learn of this as soon as possible, including announcing it to the Elderman of each town.

Agility: 16-21

Carapace (exoskeleton) deflects 15, except at small area of each joint, which deflects only 4. Weak spot is under the "arms", which deflects only 2.
The creature is called this because it is a strange bug-like thing the size of a large grizzly, with six legs and two arm-like appendages in front of these. It has a long neck that ends in a large head with huge mandibles before its mouth. It is unaffected by fire or water. Its legs end in feet that have three forward facing claws and one rear facing claw. There are webs between the claws. It swims well. It is afraid of smoke, and it is thought that this interferes with its breathing. It is native to the Hallu river area, although it may wander as far as Valkra (rarely). The females may lay up to 30 eggs. These are solitary creatures.
