Westweald Bridge Settlement in Kobos | World Anvil

Westweald Bridge

"Westweald Bridge is probably the least populated of the Titanbridges. There are more Villeins than Maneretss, more homesteads than residents inside the town proper. It's also the least explored and the most ripe for continued exploration. Who knows what lies in the foundations?"   ~Grandmaster Jeren, Archmage of the Golden Tower

Demographics

Primarily Human and Halfling, generally poor but post-subsistence.

Government

Mayor   Magistrate   Sheriff   Manerray   Chirurgeon   Cunning One   Manerets   Villein   Elector   Militia Sergeant   Bawler

Defences

Bridge Proper is bracketed by gatehouses, into which the populace would flee should the need arise.

Industry & Trade

Farming and fishing are the two major industries, and the town makes money from the caravans passing through both in the form of trade and gate tariffs.

Infrastructure

The pumps internal to the Titanbridge brings up enough water to irrigate all of the surrounding farmland, as well as keep the town proper more than supplied.

Districts

The town itself is divided into three districts: Eastside, Westside, and Bridge Proper. Of the three, Westside is the most inhabited and the Bridge Proper is the largest by mass. Eastside contains the barracks and the mayoral manse, Westside contains the majority of the housing developments, and the Bridge Proper features the markets and most of the economic buildings.

Assets

A merchant's inn named the Titanic Winebowl looms over the market. A freight elevator powered by a waterwheel mechanism lowers goods and people down to the docks, and raises them up again.

Points of interest

Whether passing through or arriving at a destination, the markets of Bridge Proper are not to be missed.   Beneath the foundations of the bridge pylons is a Titanic ruin that remains mostly unexplored.

Architecture

Westweald Bridge was built from large stones softened and woven together in a complex braid before being allowed to reharden. This technique has created a near indestructible structure over which was laid wide, flat cobblestones in a mutually tensile jigsaw pattern. There are no railings to speak of, and a slight slant towards the edges to allow rain to run off the sides. Near the Titanic Winebowl, wooden walls have been set up to prevent drunkards from simply stumbling off the edge in the dark.

Geography

The bridge spans a gorge over the Grasping River where it slopes sharply down from the waterfalls in Krezzym. The walls of this gorge are nearly sheer, and the drop is almost a hundred feet.
