Season Theme

Introduce the World

Wax Wing takes place in Midgard, the neutral Realm attached to the multidimensional Axis Mundi. Among the humans of Midgard, Ares Mars Olympia, Aphrodite Venus Ourania and their human spouse Leonidas Olympia live with their family, the Areosides. Instead of life in Olympus or Ásgard, Ares and his kin forego magic. He's developed Kopis Industries, a mercenary military and research & development firm for medicine, warfare, vehicles & weaponry.

Introduce the Characters

Raised at Aphneion, siblings Lou & Icarus are a brawn & brain 'odd couple' learning what life looks like on the other side of death and resurrection. Lou's military brawn hides a caring heart, while Icarus' calculation and urge to prove their skill against their legendary father leaves them ambitious. A technological genius with a PhD by 20.

Their dynamic shifts in Season 1, causing a tumble from gods to barkeeps.

SYNOPSIS

Prove it or Move it

Invaders in Midgard!? The Mora of Kopis Industries mobilizes to meet the would-be usurping menaces. Newly promoted Enomotarch Lou Areides volunteers for a champion vs champion fight to the death for the fate of Planet Earth. When the scale of the Bardagi force hits him in the big toe, life turns sideways for Ares' Great-Grandson.

Icarus
Balking at their growing distance after Lou's promotion, Icarus decides they're old enough not to need their big brother anymore. Time to create Daedalus.AI, an artificial intelligence grafted from memories of their legendary father as a replacement for 'big bro'.
Lou
In need of proving himself, Lou offers his sword and shield to fight the Bardagi champion... only to find putting his neck out might have been premature and being in the limelight isn't what it's cracked up to be.

Daedalus Ascending

Minitron of Bardaga must avenge the dishonour of being alive after a duel to the death, by attempting to slay the giant Lou. He charges through Brolympus, only to be caught by Lou & Icarus before any damage is done. Icarus continues to build Daedalus.AI, while taking a break at Finn's Pub for a coffee, when they meet the lovely Seraya.

Icarus
Daedalus.AI development continues, plus a meet-cute with Seraya Rosethorn. Icarus 3D prints pieces for engineering Minitron things, while ordering in dollhouse gear. Talks to Minitron re: Daedalus.AI when Lou's not in the room.
Lou
Dealing with the semi-humiliation of his big shot to impress turning into a pipsqueak, Lou keeps looking for ways to prove his worth to the Enomotia, Ares and Leonidas. He goes to bug Icarus and when met with resistence, starts an argument. A further rift.

Beer Can Confessionals

In an attempt to avenge the "clearly dead" Minitron, his crew venture through the Bardagi portals with intent to slay Lou. They get caught, and while Lou teaches them the art of the kegger (with a can of beer as their keg), they teach him about Bardaga. After a fight with Icarus, Lou realizes he needs to be needed, and agrees to help Minitron and the others defeat Bar & Dag, the gods destroying Bardaga.

They venture through the portal with a mighty burst of magic... and on the other side Lou finds he's made a big mistake.

Icarus
Continuing to work on Daedalus.AI, Icarus meets up with Seraya at Finn's, under the guise of letting her borrow some textbooks for her uni classes. Finnegan mentions the intricacies of magic portals and a sense of scale. Icarus get back too late, when Seraya asks them if they want a proper cuppa, "eh, I've got time. Lou's not that stupid."
Lou
Still miffed about the fight with Icarus, Lou teaches the Bardagi crew about life in Midgard. He builds them a remote controlled car, and they party. After hearing the Bardagi's plight, Lou offers to help. Thinking Icarus would bite his head off anyway "lil sib don't need me anymore", he leaves without sending Icarus a message. He tells his friend Caleb, instead.

Lou Meteoric

Stuck on the other side of the portal, the reality of life in Bardaga begins to sink in the second Minitron and the others get Lou moving. They need to reach cover before Bar and Dag ruin their day and make them smears on the glitter meadows. Back on Midgard, and thoroughly in Panic Mode, Icarus starts zooming through research for solutions to the scale issue. Caleb brings Finnegan and Seraya, while Ares offers to talk the Aesir into some aide.

Icarus
Panic. How can Lou come back three inches tall!? Can they even bring him back without a stable portal? Icarus throws into Daedalus.AI (cueing up the self-learning algorithms in haste) and Caleb, Seraya & Finnegan come to help. Ares tries to calm the apoplectic youth down.
Lou
The dangers of Bardaga are non-stop and vicious. Minitron, Lou et Co keep each other alive, and barely have time to think of anything else. Will Lou ever see Icarus again?

Stellar Radio

Stuck in Bardaga, Lou hears his sibling's voice. A falling star relays Stellar Radio Leander Are You Listening?, and the siblings talk for as long as they're able. Thinking he might be stuck in Bardaga forever, Lou ascends to the starry land of the gods, to knock some sense into them or die trying. Meanwhile, Icarus is learning how to use the stars to triangulate for Finnegan & Caleb's spell & Ares talks the Aesir into a horse fit to traverse the Rainbow Road.

Icarus
In a quiet moment, Seraya helps Icarus by making them a cuppa and they talk about Lou. Sweet moment, a bit romantic. "I can't lose him. I'll burn half the stars in the galaxy to do it." "That might not be necessary, but it's a solid plan." Caleb lets Icarus know they've got something.
Lou
Atop the Bardagan world, Lou sets things right for the Bardagi, and while among the stars, tries to make a peace that won't come. No, he needs to keep fighting to get back to Icarus. Listening to the music on the breeze, Minitron & Co promise to follow him to whatever end he makes.

Burning Out

Icarus, Caleb, Finnegan and Seraya figure out the portal in time to get Lou back before something stupid happens. Lou gets through to the gods and Bardaga is peaceful for the first time in its existence. The Bardagi come out of hiding to praise their new leader. Yet, Icarus' voice calls Lou back through the magic portal toward home. Home can never be a place without his little sib.

Icarus
Daedalus.AI helps stabilize the magic of the portal. In the end, Icarus confesses to Lou they were jealous and thought Lou's life was better when he didn't have to worry about a strange and difficult little sibling. They get the world's biggest hug, and all is right with the world... "oh and I kinda have a girlfriend..."
Lou
Upon return home, Lou, Minitron & Co end up in Chalceus Citadel amidst everyone's magic. Caleb stabilizes the portal with Icarus' help. The right size, Lou divebombs Icarus with a hug. All is right with the world... except the Bardagi need quarters instead of a dolls house inside a terrarium.

Setting and Tone

Cyberpunk meets Mythpunk, in a Noblecore adventure.

One part sci-fi, one part magic realism, with deep character moments to ground the work, Wax Wing drives through drama with humour and the promise of a happy (enough) ending. The Realms are fierce, but nothing is taken too seriously beyond the inter-sibling trouble between Icarus and Lou.

Midgard is analagous to 2017 Earth, and mostly featured either in Brolympus, Lou & Icarus' suite in Aphneion, which has slightly techno sounds from Icarus' office, to the dumbells in Lou's gym. Add a coffee maker almost permanently in use and marble floors in wide, open and sparsely furnished rooms.

The Axis Mundi (Finn's Pub) is alive with various species and their noise. Glasses drunk, drinks poured, conversation and the odd growl. Some rooms have music, while others poetry and still others the quiet of a docile coffee shop in a forgotten area of a closed down tourist town.

The strangest setting will be Bardaga, an alien world both created by childish energy, and lethal to its inhabitants. Cosmic star sounds combine with marshmallow forests, unicorns made of string & fluff, dragons who breathe glitter instead of fire. Flower petals the size of porch umbrellas are velvet covered metal, and safe spaces are carved into old meteors or hard candy caves. Above cotton candy clouds, the song of cosmic stars & sound of the spheres punctuate children's laughter and near-lullaby ambience.

Wow! This has so much detail and so much to explore - I look forward to coming back and looking at it more in depth. I am super intrigued by the setting but also by the characters you've laid out.

Thanks so much! It was daunting, but fun to think up a way to collect my pre-production efforts into a single article, but I'm super proud of it. Hope you like the eventual product even more! Haha I wish. ;)
