Badasses (/ˈbadas/)

"In a world with elite units in virtually every organization that has people capable of picking up a rifle, the word 'elite' really doesn't mean much anymore. So the geniuses at the Dracholmian Union had to come up with new military jargon to describe a unit significantly more powerful than even the well trained ones. Of course, them being the neanderthals they are did not pick anything intuitive. They chose to go with "Badass". So if you hear one of their troops say "Badass en route.", order your men to retreat."

Benefits

The rank of badass is generally informal and does not come with anything like a medal or other sort of benefit, apart from bragging rights. It is not even officially given by commanders, instead soldiers or anyone that participates in combat will be labelled a badass by displaying impressive feats of courage, skill or ingenuity on the field, being a member of an esteemed unit, or simply carrying heavy weapons/heavy armor. Because it has no weight other than bragging rights, the title does not come with a medal, rise in pay or even compensation. Instead, it may aid in being accepted into more badass divisions that do offer extra benefits. Private organizations are also drawn to badasses for their own projects. A famous example is Percy Wright, who was labelled a badass after years of service and because of the title was hired by Klaut Rosefield to be the handler for the neo immortals.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

As it is very informal, the label of badass is typically only removed by displaying cowardice.

Cultural Significance

Even though it may not sound like it, the word badass had been around since the start of the Linnessian language, and it is generally used to describe a tough, intimidating, cool, or otherwise very bold person. It was generally only used by younger people, as the name was more or less considered vulgar. It started to pick up steam as military jargon mostly because Tower Charlot consistently used it to describe something he approved of, especially when relating to battle. His usage of the word popularized it among the soldiery and it eventually took on a new meaning to describe a stalwart, brave or otherwise hard boiled combatant, be they friendly or not.

Badass is essentially Dracholmian military jargon for members of specific divisions that are deployed only when necessary due to high stakes, firm resistance, or otherwise unorthodox conditions. It also refers to units of any rank and division that perform exceptionally well, so to other space faring factions 'badass' is equivalent to 'veteran', 'elite', or 'champion'. In short, a badass just means a more powerful soldier be it by training and equipment or experience be they allied or an enemy.
Source of Authority
Individual units (sometimes entire divisions) are labelled as badasses based on their performance. While the rank doesn't mean much, it may help getting promoted in the future.
