Humanity is thought to have been born on a great continent, where they built gigantic towers and pyramids in lush rainforests, plains, and coasts. But the
naered and the
aignaoithe destroyed the continent in the
Shattering War, leaving behind
the Ruins.
Much of the
Kingdom of Crathlia's history prior to the
Colonization is legend, oral histories passed through stories and songs, so little that survived the aignaoithe's firm control over the land. By intermixing with Crathlian humans, the aignaoithe created the
Paragons and
Amalgams--humans with magical abilities--that dominate Crathlia today.
Three intelligent species exist:
Humans,
Aignaoithe, and
Naered. The aignaoithe and the naered have been locked in combat for thousands of years, and the humans have been leveraged by both sides. However, humans have also learned to leverage both species of dragons for their own benefit. Most recently,
Empress Calida attacked the naer lands of
Shui Lu in order to draw the dragons into her ambition to conquer the entire continent of
Morion...
Avium is an Afro-futuristic-inspired continent full of African-inspired cultures and cutting-edge technology.
Shui Lu draws from China and its dynasties.
Leutland is German-inspired, and
Tellia takes certain cues from the Roman Empire. The
Republic of Notia draws from France with a Cajun and African-influenced bent.
Crathlia is inspired by Great Britain and Ireland.
In the
Kingdom of Crathlia, the three major classifications are
Dregs,
Amalgams, and
Paragons.
The
aignaoithe and the
naered believe that they have a religious duty to destroy each other and have been fighting for thousands of years.
Empress Calida of the
Lumen Empire wants to conquer the whole of
Morion. In the wake of the
Great War, she is currently in the process of waging
war on the
Republic of Notia. Eventually, she would like to push over the mountains into
Shui Lu, an attractive idea to the aignaoithe, who see it as their opprotunity to finally destroy the naered...
Crathlia is the old
Paragon kingdom to contrast Calida's new empire. It is allied with the Lumen Empire due to Calida threatening to cut off their supply to mainland food, a necessity for Crathlia. As part of the alliance, Calida demanded the hand of
Queen Alexandra's second-most-powerful child. Because of this agreement,
Princess Eloise is married to Calida's son. Crathlia resents Empress Calida's power over its ancient monarchy and seeks to regain the upper hand as much as possible.
But conflict is sparking within Crathlia's borders. The
Amalgams,
Dregs, and
Drainers of Crathlia are done being oppressed by
Paragons. Revolution brews, and the nobility tightens its hold on its people, clinging to the power that may yet slip through its grasp. All the while, common-born
King Leonard does his best to introduce slow change to placate the commoners while also keeping the support of his power-hungry nobility. His son
Crown Prince Victor and future daughter-in-law
Cordelia Colbreak Evenbrook support him as best they can, but they've only ever known privilege. How can they balance the desires of the nobles and the commoners when even Victor's father is stumbling?
