Gulthias-Deceased
Gulthias
Gulthias was a male vampire who worked with the Red Wizards of Thay.
He was killed by a member of the Cult of Talos in the Sunless Citadel, and the wooden stake used by the cultist then grew into a tree that would become known as the Gulthias Tree and, later, the origin of the village of Thundertree.

Personal history
Death at the Sunless Citadel
In the early 1400s, while working for the Red Wizards of Thay, Gulthias was traveling through the Neverwinter Wood and hoping to find an entrance to the ancient underground dwarven city of Gauntlgrym. He found the entrance to the Sunless Citadel and went inside in his mist form, eventually witnessing a lightning ritual by the Cult of Talos. One of the cultists spotted Gulthias, and they surrounded him and killed him with a wooden stake directly on the ritual site. The stake fused with the magic of the ritual site and grew into a massive undead tree.
Over time, the Talassans became distracted by the mysterious Gulthias Tree, some worshipping it more than Talos. Talos commanded his followers to leave the citadel and create a new headquarters, which he called the Circle of Thunder. Not all of them followed his commands; some of the Talos worshippers stayed at the Sunless Citadel and instead worshipped the tree.
Kairos Tries to Finish What Gulthias Started
In 1451, Gulthias' vampire spawn Kairos led a mercenary team to the Sunless Citadel. Kairos was working for a mercenary guild in Neverwinter, and Taris Greenshadow hired the guild to invade the complex, kill the druid Belak, and retrieve a dragon egg that Belak stole from the Cult of the Dragon-Claugiyliamatar Sect; Taris didn't know that the egg had already hatched, and Belak was holding the green dragon wyrmling he named Venomfang captive.
Kairos and the mercenaries (Amethyst Mountainbender, Azrael, Knismizo and Thimble) succeeded in killing Belak, but Venomfang escaped. After finishing that mission, Kairos led the group to follow the roots of the Gulthias Tree all the way to Gauntlgrym to attempt to finish what Gulthias started.
After arriving in Gauntlgrym, however, a Talassan cultist named Izoneus Stormsworn appeared and pulled a lever to release the fire primordial Maegera, leading to the eruption of Mount Hotenow.
Raphaella Asks Herb for Help Finding Gulthias
Years later, Herb Stoner and some friends who attended Golden Coast College in Longwood took a spring break trip to Neverwinter. While exploring the city, the group stumbled into the underground crypt of the vampire Raphaella Umber.
Raphaella surprised the group, rising up out of a coffin and trapping Herb and his friends. Raphaella let them leave with their lives if they agreed to do something for her. She figured out that Herb and his friends were studying to be wizards, so she demanded that they use their magical abilities to find a location important to her. She told them to find an underground fortress called the "Sunless Citadel."
Raphaella didn't know where the Sunless Citadel was; she only knew its name. She explained that her lover, Gulthias, went missing many years ago, and she thought that whatever happened to him happened at the Sunless Citadel. She told them that if they could figure out where the Sunless Citadel was, she would give them a great reward.
