The Burning Sea

The desert region known as the Burning Sea is home to more than just ever-shifting sand dunes. An inhospitable landscape, The Burning Sea takes its name from the dangerous temperatures the desert can reach during the mid day. Fearsome beasts stalk the dunes and arid wastes of The Burning Sea, and travelers are forced to travel carefully mapped trade routes from oasis to oasis.

Geography

The Burning Sea is an arid, hot desert, with deep dunes covering the greater portion, and blasted rocky steppes surrounding. There are some oasis throughout the desert, and even settlements, though food and water are hard to come by if one does not know where to look.  The western edge boarders the Dreaming Sea, while to the east, the mountain range The Barrier juts from the ground to tower high above the sands.

Localized Phenomena

Deep in the southern part of the Burning Sea lies the Great Chasm, a canyon that leads to the Underdark. The cliffs are sheer and descend for hundreds of feet, into a ever growing darkness.

Natural Resources

The Burning Sea is rich in precious metals and salt mines, though these lie deep under the dunes.
