Oggaruk (Ah-GUH-rue-k)

Oggaruk is the smallest of the Tri-Cities, three large pyramid structures from ancient times that houses an entire city. It is sometimes called the Red City, after it's reddish coloring, or the City of Blood, after the slave pits and arena centrally located inside the city.  It lies along the River Life, that flows from the Barrier Mountains, into the Dreaming Sea.

Demographics

Oggaruk is a highly diverse city, with it's population being comprised of humans, goblins, orcs, kobolds, and dwarves. All creatures are welcome, it is said, so long as they don't make too much trouble.

Government

Oggaruk is ruled by The Vigilance, a shadowy figure that holds absolute power and authority. Orders are passed down from The Vigilance to members of the Guilds and their guild masters. The guild masters then will meet to best enact laws that meet The Vigilance's demands. Some laws are without interpretation though. Taxation is simple; you want to sell anything in Oggaruk, you either have to belong to a guild, and pay membership, or 25% of all incomes are taken as tax. Law Enforcement is ran through by the Guardsman Guild, and any vigilante activity is dealt with brutally.

Defences

The city walls are near indestructible, and self heal over time. The walls can be sealed up and the smooth surface provides difficult purchases for invading armies.

Industry & Trade

Oggaruk controls a salt mine outside the city and deals in slaves from all over the continent and their own brood stock. Most inhabitants work in the mines or in small subsistence farms around the city, relying on the moisture of the early mornings to water crops.

Infrastructure

Oggaruk is a magical city, in part created by the Great Wyrm, Thranovox, with help of a powerful Mage's Guild.  Oggaruk was created with a complex water and sewer system already installed. Each level has both water and toilets and a central cooling system as well that draws cold air from deep within the ground. People have attempted to build inside the city, but find that the strange stone walls do not respond well to building or demolition or change.

Districts

Oggaruk has 3 distinct dristricts; the lower district, which is where the markets and slave pits are at, is the poorest area and most people live in this section of the pyramid. It is much darker and smellier, as the ventilation can't always keep up with the crowded apartments.   The middle district is where the wealthier citizens live and where the higher bazaars are located. The guilds all have their Halls here, and the Area can also be found here.   The Upper Level is where the nobles of the city live. It is the cleanest, the most heavily patrolled by guards, and contains the richest shops, libraries and fine dining.   The Citadel is the highest floor of the City, the top of the pyramid and houses the quarters of The Vigilance. No one is allowed to enter here.

Assets

An artesian well provides the city with an abundant source of fresh water, a highly valued commodity in the arid desert. A treasure vault, rumored to contain magic items and mountains of gold. No one knows for sure.
