Jade
Rhovalkral of Rhovalach
“Forgive Me”
-Jade
Jade was a hobgoblin wizard who specialized in Necromancy magic. She was a magic refugee during the time of the Holy Cleansings, which was active around the 7th century in Aedinia. She was born to a goblinoid tribe west of Aedinia, Rhovalach, thirty-two years prior to the events of the Smugglers of Magic Campaign (ca. 622 AC). During the campaign, she lived in Bersail.
Jade was a player character, played by Peter. Jade was also a player-character in the Hunt the heartless one-shot
Appearance
Jade as a hobgoblin possessed some monstrous features. She had a pointy chin; teeth and ears, pink skin and sunken eyes. She had thick eyebrows and long wavy hair, both a dark color. Her nose was big, making it easier to rest her large round glasses against, which helped her see better with her green eyes. She was 143 centimeters tall. Because of the typical physique of a Hobgoblin, she was rather toned despite not being all that strong. Due to an injury early in life, she lost her dominant left arm, which she replaced with a skeletal arm through necromancy magic. She would wear cloaks to hide the left part of her body and the arm with it. She would wear short dresses, longer pants and knee-high boots. She liked to wear blue colors.Personality
Jade was raised by the leading goblin clan of Rhovalach, which had instilled a lot of values into her. She mostly tried to do away with those but still learned different ethics of her surroundings on a regular basis. When the campaign started, she had a mostly gloomy outlook on life and was generally uncharismatic. She would care most for her magic and research, and wished to continue her education. It was hard for her to make friends, only knowing two people more closely; Rodrigo and Rhiannon Amare.Relationships
Rodrigo
Jade met Rodrigo the moment she was banished from her tribe. He was kind enough to offer her a trip to the Stormrend peninsula, as he was headed there anyways. After the Holy Cleansings had reached her new home of Scarbell, she reached out to Rodrigo, after which he offered her to live with him in Bersail. The two lived together at the start of the campaignRhiannon Amare
Jade met Rhiannon when she was studying at the latter’s grandfather’s academy in Scarbell. Rhiannon was unusually nice to Jade, who was used to being treated poorly by others. Rhiannon offered Jade a pink bow when she saw that her skeletal arm had a fracture in it. The two reunited in Bersail some years prior to the campaign and have been regularly seeing each other since.Matsrur
Jade and Matsrur at first did not say a lot to each other. She was quick to recognize his strength however, as when they had to dig a hole in her graveyard for Holy Cleansings inquisitors, she handed him a spare shovel to help her dig. During said dig, Mat asked Jade about her thoughts on the first smuggling mission, which was their first direct conversation. Since then, they have grown to trust each other's abilities and shared secrets when prompted.Irial
Irial, as the quietest member of the Smugglers of Magic party, did not interact much with Jade. However, she did recognize his skills as a bodyguard, as shown when she asked him to come with her when she was threatened by the Fishmongers in the Stranded Sailor. When it was revealed that Irial served a death god, she stayed neutral as she has learned from her own magic that death itself is not an evil being.Flynran
Initially starting out well enough in their relationship, Flynran was at one point prompted by Jade to spill a secret when doubts of him being the traitor in the Smugglers of Magic were prompted. Flynran initially awkwardly questioned why she would ask such a thing, but did end up telling about his past with his brother. Jade took it as a good response and has trusted Flyn more since.Fièn
Fièn and Jade have spent little time conversing in private, but had generally found themselves agreeing with each other. Jade does wonder why she wears a mask all the time.History
Before the campaign
From 640 to 646 AC, she was studying at the magic academy in Scarbell where she had hoped to prove her thesis about necromancy, how it could have many medical applications that were currently being overlooked. She had troubles proving so, and had to put her studies on indefinite hiatus when she fled the city due to the Holy Cleansings. She found an opportunity with her friend Rodrigo to live in Bersail. By 654 AC, she had found work in the city as a gravekeeper. She used the income to cover expenses she and Rodrigo made. It also served as a perfect cover for her to practice her necromancy magic.Smugglers of Magic
Joining the Smugglers
Jade got word that Rhiannon was looking for her, and that Rodrigo would set up a meeting with the two of them and some other people. A few days later, she met up with Rhiannon in the Stranded Sailor. It was then that she met Flynran, Irial, Matsrur and Fièn. Rhiannon had mentioned her concerns with the current Smugglers of Magic, and that with the Holy Cleansings having reached Bersail, it would not be a safe place for any magic user to live anymore. They all decided to do something about it. The plan they came up with was to infiltrate the smugglers and change them from within. To do this, they decided to find a contact person through Matsrur and Irial, work for them and climb the ranks. Jade, together with Rhiannon and Matsrur went to meet with Efren, a human who had contracted Matsrur before, who was associated with The Stolen. After some uncomfortable questions for Jade, Efren decided to let her join the team that managed the Parafonos Blood procedures, which caused magic users to permanently lose their access to the arcane. Really anxious about this job, she agreed even when the other party members told her there likely was no avoiding that work. Regardless, when she found out that the procedure had a 1 in 5 chance of failing and killing the patient, she felt that with her medical skillset she could do way better and cause less fatalities. The following day, Jade and the others were introduced to Icary and Orlon of the Smugglers of Magic. Orlon explained to the party what was going to be happening that evening and where they could fit in. Jade, as explained by Efren before, was to perform the Parafonos Blood procedures on certain targets. The party found a body during their visit to the smugglers, one that died through a lethal Parafonos Blood procedure. Jade could not tell how the victim died exactly, even with her extensive medical knowledge. When asking Orlon how the Smugglers disposed of bodies, he responded to her stated that it should not be something she should concern herself with. Jade meekly responded that as the town's gravekeeper, it in fact was her concern, to which Orlon insisted she should not concern herself any further with it.The book of Darkness
To be extended. Also see: Necra Itlin After the Smugglers of magicAfter the events of the campaign, Jade went back home to her tribe in the western mountains. There she killed her father and with some struggle (and sibling murder) succeeded him as the leader of their clan. She then used this as a vigilante group, hunting witchhunters left after the dissolution of the Holy Cleansings. Over time she would built up towers and points all over the continent as a wizard. Even later Jade is likely to attempt to and succeed in becoming a lich through her relentless studies of the necromantic arts. Jade joined the Hunt the heartless party. During this time Jade had already greatly increased in power and influence, building some wizards towers over the continent, and having plans to build plenty more. After the events of Hunt the heartless Jade continued her wizard plans and also conscripted Lady to help in building some of her towers, particularly in the Demon lands(due to the danger).
Skills
Arcane magicJade is a wizard giving her access to a wide range of spells she knows how to utilize. Jade has a decent grasp on various types of magics like basic magical shields, some standard arcane bolts, lighting, sleeping spells, basic identification magic and various more. Beyond that Jade has her specialization (descirbed below). Jade also has extensive knowledge on magic as well. Necromancy specialization
Necromanic magic is Jade her specialty. Dealing with the soul and how to manipulate that is the practice of necromancy. Jade also combines this with a kind of transmutative practice as well. Jade initially iin her studies looked into using necromancy for healing arts, promting the soul and combining it with other magics to heal the body. This practice she actually succeeded in and learned how to utilize some of her spells to heal herself and even pass the energy around to be able to heal others. Later on Jade also learned more about what could be considered "standard" necromancy. In part from her own interest and in part through being interested in it because of the Necra Itlin. A more sinister application of Jade her specialty she learned to apply is to take and trap the souls out of bodies and to then tap energy from those souls, slowly killing them but being able to use the energy. The souls are kept in specially prepared arcane containers.
By the time of the Hunt the heartless one-shot Jade her necromantic power had gotten even greater, through much practice. She had become capabale of summoning even more and stronger undead, even being able to make an undead clone of herself with magical powers and everything. Magically enhanced health
Through a magic book aquired towards the end of the Smugglers of magic campaign, Jade magically has enhanced her physical health. This aids her lifespan and her resistance to injury and general health, making her suprisingly hardy in her frail wizard body. Articial arm
Jade has a magical skeleton arm which she magically crafted herself.

Trivia
- Jade was created by her player because he wanted to play a character completely opposite to his previous one, Daine Treebound.
- She was originally conceived as a gnome, but this was changed when her player wanted take a darker interpretation with the character, and a desire to play an exotic or monstrous race over those available in the Player’s Handbook. The player also refused to play a small race twice in a row.
- Her glasses and skeletal left arm were originally aesthetic choices. However when the DM had her player test new rules for a character creation system which included disabilities for both upsides and downsides, he decided that the character would follow those rules and gain additional benefits.
- Jade and her 13 siblings are all named after gemstones. The reason for this is that her father Rhimbal is particularly fond of them.
- Jade has learned how to do many tasks which typically require two hands, with a single one. She is able to eat her food using both a fork and knife in the same hand, and can use a shovel when digging graves by forcing it into the dirt, using her leg to dig into it further and utilizes her strength to dig the dirt away.
Aliases
